These dumbbells are a great option for lifters who don't need more than about 50 pounds in each hand. It's great to go to the gym and have racks and racks of dumbbells in every size, but it's not that practical at home.

And the bigger the dumbbell - the higher the price. Most dumbbells sell for about $1 per pound. That means that a set of 50 pound dumbbells could run you $100.

I have a set of these dumbbells, adjustable from a minimum of 5 pounds each to a maximum of 52.5 pounds each. I've never lifted more than 45 pounds in each hand, but having the 50 pound option is great for more advanced lifters. You can also use 1 - 50 pound dumbbell to squat or deadlift sumo style.

One great program that gives you a ton of flexibility with the types of exercises you do is called Turbulence Training. Turbulence Training offers a wide variety of programs, most geared toward losing fat and keeping muscle. Many incorporate body weight AND weighted exercises. And you can do the exercises at home.
