Bowling Green, Kentucky!
This lens covers some of my most favorite things to do and places to visit in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Isn't this fountain beautiful?
It is the centerpiece of one great place to see - Fountain Square in downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky.
There are shops and eateries all around the square to explore, too. My personal favorite is The Pots Place at 428 East Main Street.
Others fun places to explore downtown and nearby include Lot 916, Mariah's, The Capital Arts Center, and Holland House.
Look for more neat places to explore here on my lens soon.

More are listed later in this lens.
I think it's one of the best kept secrets around that Bowling Green, Kentucky is a GREAT home base, AND a great place to visit.
- LOST RIVER CAVE AND VALLEY
- This Cave has walking paths, a boat tour, and more.
Lost River Cave is definitely first on my list because it has so many different things to do. You can tour the cave outside, or take the boat to the inside of the cave.
Special events are held at the cave, which is naturally cool during hot summers. Jesse James is said to have hidden here at Lost River Cave after robbing a bank.
Lost River Cave has the shortest and longest river in the world! Plus, it has a beautiful mill display that is run by water from the cave. - CHANEY'S DAIRY BARN
- Chaney's is just plain fun. It started small, and now it is VERY popular around Bowling Green. You can get ice cream there, take a tour, and have a sandwich too. In the summer they offer FREE movies they call Ice Cream and a MOO-vie that they show outdoors.
They have nice big tables inside and extremely friendly people work there. It's a definite MUST to visit. - BEECH BEND PARK AND SPLASH LAGOON
- Beech Bend park has rides, food, and also a campground. PLUS, they also have a racetrack. They have all kinds of racing events, including motorcycle events and drag racing.
Families can spend the day riding rides and having fun. Beech Bend also recently bought one of Michael Jackson's rides that used to be at Neverland.
I like Beech Bend park partly because I used to work there. I made corn dogs and served cokes. I remember it was a VERY hot summer too. - THE NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM
- This museum is a lot of fun to tour. I know, because I have toured it at least twice. Each time the owners add even more. There are many Corvettes here, all colors, all years.
Several times a year, you can see loads of Corvettes all around Bowling Green, Kentucky. They come from all over to attend events and reunions here.
They also MAKE Corvettes here, and have a plant tour at the plant too. - THE POTS PLACE CO-OP STUDIO AND GALLERY
- I work here sometimes! I am also a resident potter. The Pots Place offers ceramics classes to potters of all ages. It also features pottery from 6 resident potters. Come by and say hi!
- The Hobson House - - or Riverview at Hobson Grove
- This historical house offers workshops and tours. I can't wait to go there and take some pictures!
- The Kentucky Museum and Library
- The Kentucky Museum houses a great genealogical library, plus all kinds of books about Kentucky. It also has a museum and art gallery! This is a fun place to visit also for its wonderful gift shop, that features crafts from all over Kentucky.
Here is another photo of Fountain Square Park.
I like the statues there a lot.

I think I'll do another lens - and put all my park pictures there!
More really fun places to visit
- Beech Bend Park
- This is also the site for Splash Lagoon AND some fun races and events.
- The Kentucky Library and Museum
- Art-lovers, historians, and fans of Kentucky will love this museum and art gallery. You can learn about the history of Bowling Green here, and use the great genealogy resources at the Library too. The shows are always changing, and there are many Kentucky artifacts on display here.
- Western Kentucky University
- Did I mention that Bowling Green was a University town? It is! WKU is famous for its many diverse programs, great instructors, and history. They have many free events, concerts, shows, and lectures at the campus, which is situated on "The Hill" in Bowling Green, with great views of the city.

The International Festival
We have a GREAT International Festival in Bowling Green, too.

This is one of the best events Bowling Green, Kentucky has every year.
It is being held in Circus Square this year on September 25th, 2010.
The International Festival has a parade, performances, international costumes, music, food booths, and a lot more.

I can think of some more places to add right now, in fact.
Farmer's Markets - we have two Farmer's markets that are busy in the spring to the fall. One is called the SKY Farmer's Market. Laura Bain-Selbo has her pottery there. She is one of the Pots Place potters. Their hours are 7-noon Saturdays and 7-1 Tuesdays. Another Farmer's Market is called The Original Farmer's Market. It is on Scottsville Road. Their hours are 6 a.m. until sellout on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

- I was born in Graham, Kentucky in Muhlenberg County. I've been through Bowling Green, but never got to stop and visit. Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places on earth, but I lived in Indiana more of my life than in my birth state. I did serve in the Army at Fort Knox, KY and visited some in that area. Thanks for the ideas of places to visit in Bowling Green.
