Why Do We Love Boxers?
What is it about this dog that makes us all gooshy?
There is not just one thing, it is a package deal.
Boxers are forever playful and good natured, very goofy at times, but yet majestic, loyal to the family, natural protectors, and just beautiful to look at.
"Canine Clowns" an excerpt from an article by Matthew Cowley
He is the clown of the dog fraternity, canines answer to vaudeville. A laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick. But he is also a sympathetic soul, a shoulder to cry on, a confidante. He is all that is good in a dog.
He is of course The Boxer

Always ready to play ...

Boxers bring endless love and fun to a home. They make you laugh when your sad and are always ready to play and have some fun. They are very high energy, so need to be trained properly when they are young to follow simple commands. If you do this, you will have a family pet to cherish for a lifetime.
If you don't train or exercise a Boxer, you will have the equivalent of a three-year old child in a 50-80 pound body with four legs and teeth--not pretty. Pet owners need to be responsible with strong breeds.
When you have a trained Boxer, you have the sweetest, most obedient pet imaginable. Our Boxer has even helped our Pug to behave better, often nudging her lovingly whe she goes into a rant for no reason.
She is so sweet and loving, but has absolutely no conception of her size when she is with us. She will often lay her huge head on our Pug's tiny body, and tries to balance on the footrest of the couch just to get closer to me for a hug or kiss.
Amazingly enough, a well trained Boxer will know the difference between adults and children, even infants, and adjust their play to who they are with. For example, our Boxer loves to jump at and rough-house with our neighbor, but when my friends 3-year old comes to visit, she can walk all around the house and our Boxer just follows her, waiting for the opportune licking opportunity-and all kids love that!
Boxer Notes
Boxers have the highest incidence of cancer compared to other breeds.
Boxers are prone to skin conditions/allergies.
These facts shouldn't deter you from adopting.
You just need to be prepared and informed.
Love is the best gift we can give a pet!

A word about White Boxers
White boxers are a product of a specific parental pigmentation pairing, they are not rare or albino. 25% of Boxers are born white. White Boxers do not meet AKC standards and euthanization of white boxers is still practiced by breeders. Luckily more and more breeders are finding pet homes as an alternative. The white boxer my be a special needs dog, but is not a enigma. 30% can have partial or full deafness, all are prone to sunburn, and they may be more prone to illness (not evidence based).
