Boxing Wraps for MMA and Boxing what works and what'll get you hurt!

From working with boxers and MMA fighters I can honestly say what some beginners know about boxing wraps is dangerous. With all the different options for boxing wraps nowadays just making things worse.
What do we need from our over the counter wraps until we can get a professional in our corner?

  • Stability

  • Durability

  • Comfort

  • Padding

  • Today I'll teach you why when given a choice between all of those things I want you to pick Stability 10 times out of 10. The only piece of equipment you're going to be wearing that protects your wrist is your boxing wraps. So obviously you don't want to skimp here as that's just asking for injury.
Even if you do stay injury free, don't you want to hit really hard?
I'm hoping you're shouting yes at the top of your lungs now or you should probably reconsider your career in MMA or boxing. A good set of boxing wraps will make sure that the power you generate from your punch does not get lost at your wrist joint should it flex. Your boxing wraps keep your wrist locked out so the force can be transferred from your shoulder directly to your opponents chin.

    Boxer?

    What's your most important tool?

Well after your brain it'd probably be your hands sadly a lot of fighters don't use their brain when it comes to keeping their hands safe.

Boxing wraps are probably the least thought of part of every MMA and boxers equipment list but without a doubt the most important. Boxing wraps are the most important defense against injury to the wrist and hands the boxer or mixed martial artist has. Yet it's still common to see guys especially in MMA foregoing the boxing wraps. Boxing wraps add a little bit of padding to the knuckles but it's effect is inconsequential in comparison to that of the way in which the wraps stabilize the wrist preventing major injury.

Having been involved in boxing and now MMA for a few years it's worth noting that not all boxing wraps are created equal. In fact I hazard to say there is a large gaping void between best in class and the rest where boxing wraps are concerned. When I'm shopping for wraps there needs to be a balance between strength; I expect my wraps to stop my wrists turning over and putting me out of commission for 2 weeks and comfort; I equally don't want my hands chafing or worse being cut by uncomfortable fabric. So stretchy boxing wraps are out of the question and some of the companies that produce boxing wraps that feel like they're closer to the rope our traditional muay thai brethren use should actually be prosecuted for assault on our precious hands.
That's why I love my Everlast boxing wraps these guys have been in boxing forever and you can tell as soon as you start winding their boxing wraps on.
