Boy Band Blue: Eurovision and More
It was announced at the end of January 2011 that British boy band Blue had reformed to take part in The Eurovision Song Contest. Blue performed I Can at the 2011 Contest.
The four piece vocal band were approached by the BBC to write and perform the song as the United Kingdom's entry, and with millions of eyes across Europe on them, it was an offer the band could not refuse. Much of the media response was negative, stating that it was a mistake for the band's image to appear at the contest.
With the United Kingdom's dismal last place results over the past few years - only Jade Ewen achieving a respectable fifth place in 2008 - many other observers saw Blue's participation as a positive and the real possibility of a UK win. As things turned out, Blue finished eleventh in the competition, but this did not stop I Can from becoming popular across Europe.
Here, we look back at Blue's career, and look forward to more from this successful quartet.
