The Comic Book Character Robin
Ranked #2,572 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #96,080 overall
How many different characters have been Robin
Dick Grayson may have been the first Robin character but he wasn't the last. Here we'll have a look at who's been the other half of the Dynamic Duo and where they've come from. Bob Kane and Bill Finger decided that the Comic Book character Batman needed more then just his own thoughts. Superhero Batman needed someone he could talk to, someone who could help him fight these comic book villains that were popping up, in short Batman needed a "Watson". So in 1940 in Detective Comics #38, Robin The Boy Wonder appeared. Jerry Robinson came up with the name and the costume based on his childhood hero, Robin Hood. But over the years there's been a few different Robin characters including a "girl wonder" in the comic books but only one Robin has played in the movie or tv versions of Batman and Robin.

Comic Book Character Dick Grayson
later he changed his character to Nightwing
Dick Grayson was the first Boy Wonder to appear in the comics in 1940 and he was the only Robin character who made it to the radio and the Batman and Robin tv series and the movies as well. The basics for Dick Grayson are pretty much the same in both the comic books and the tv shows/movies but there is a slight difference. Dick and his family were well known trapeze artists and his parents were killed during a stunt in the comics in which the ropes were rigged by mob boss Tony Zucco, in the movie they were killed by Two-Face. In the comics he was an 8 year old kid but in the tv series and the movies he looked more like he was in his teens. In both cases tho, Bruce Wayne took custody of the young boy and raised him. In the comics Dick learns of who Bruce is from Bruce himself but in the movie version Batman Forever, the young Dick Grayson figures it out himself and is encouraged by Alfred to take up as Robin. Eventually in the comics (1964), Grayson branches off on his own and heads The Teen Titans, a younger version of The Justice League. Batman and Robin have a falling out and a parting of the ways and Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing. The most recent however for Boy Wonder is after Batman "dies" it's Dick Grayson who becomes the new Batman.

Jason Todd the next Robin character
......a Batman wannabe

Jason Todd was the second comic book character to be Robin in the comic books. In the Pre-Crisis version of Batman, Todd's background was similar to Dick Grayson. Being from a acrobatic family who was murdered by a criminal but when the new writers were brought in for the Post-Crisis, they changed Jason Todd's background to being the son of a petty thief who ended up in jail leaving Jason to fend for himself and his mother which he did by breaking into cars. When Batman caught him trying to break into the batmobile, Batman tries to make sure he's put in a school for troubled youths but it didn't seem to work and he ended up being a ward of Bruce Wayne eventually earning the title of Robin and becoming the next half of The Dynamic Duo. Unfortunately, the Joker kidnaps Todd and ends up beating him to death leaving the spot of Robin open once again.
Tim Drake is the next comic book character to play Robin
also known as Red Robin

Tim Drake was the third Robin character in the comic books. He use to watch the Flying Grayson's all the time before their death and when he saw Robin in action he guessed as to who it was, Dick Grayson the youngest Flying Grayson. When Jason Todd was killed off as Robin, Tim Drake went to Dick Grayson and tried to convince him to return to being Robin, Drake figured Batman needed him. Grayson refused so Tim decided to give it a try and with the help of Dick and Alfred they convinced Batman to give him a shot. But before he officially became Robin, his parents were kidnapped. While Drake is tracking down one villain, Batman is trying to save his parents. Unfortunately his mother dies and his father ends up in coma. Batman finally agrees to let Tim Drake become Robin officially after he saved Batman and Vicky Vale from Scarecrow. Batman makes him go abroad for some martial arts training so the same thing doesn't happen to him that happened to Jason Todd. In the meanwhile, Drake's father comes out of his coma and eventually learns as to who Batman and Robin is. He tells Tim that if he doesn't stop what he's doing, he'll reveal to everyone who Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson really are.
Stephanie Brown the female character to play Robin
the comic book character of Robin The Girl Wonder

Stephanie Brown is the ex-girlfriend of Tim Drake and was formerly known as The Spoiler. Stephanie's father was a small time crook called The Cluemaster. Stephanie did not approve of this and eventually she became The Spoiler to thwart his plans so he would get caught. Eventually she meets Tim Drake and the two start dating but after Drake is discovered by his father and has to give up the Robin cape, Stephanie sees him one day at school with another girl and thinks he's cheating. So she goes to Batman in a costume she made herself as Robin and convinces him that she'd make a good Robin. Batman agrees and puts her thru several months of hard training. She patrols with Batman and after a couple of times of disobeying his orders, Batman fires her. However, this isn't the end of Stephanie Brown. She eventually will go on to become Batgirl.
Comic Book Character Damian Wayne
Batman's very own son

Yes, Batman has a son! And his mother is Talia Al Ghul the daughter of one of Batman's enemies Ra's Al Ghul. Batman's genetics were planted in an artificial womb. The boy was raised by his mother to become an assassin, Batman never knew of his existence. When he became a teenager, Talia sent him to live with Batman. After Batman "dies" and Dick Grayson becomes the new Batman, Damian becomes his sidekick Robin.
