Permanent Leak Fix Ideas..

The collapse of the Deepwater Horizon not only took the lives of 11 people, but the damage threatens the precious ecosystem of the Gulf Coast.

We need to do something about the massive amounts of crude that has leaked from that pipe on the bottom of the ocean floor.

So what is the plan? Please someone tell me there's a plan to contain this environmental disaster.

Let's band together and think of ideas to help out somehow.

Stop the Oil Spill Leak Ideas

What is the permanent fix?

I really don't care how crazy or unoriginal this idea might be, as long as it gives anyone else an idea of what might stop the oil leak.

Please share your drawings or ideas below!

Oil spill disaster stop leak idea

For this idea I think it would be best to either have 2 different pipes so that they can be switched out to prevent debris or crystals from clogging the pipe or some kind of mechanism to switch out the filters (I'm unsure of how quickly debris would clog up the pipe).

Sorry for the bad handwriting! I made this quickly.

What I wrote
1. Once inside the pipe, the pointer expands outward (like an upside down umbrella) to siphon the oil and keep it from spilling into open water.

2. The 2 vertical lines are filters to prevent or minimize clogs in the pipe.

Should we change our ways?

Is it time to use this tragedy and go completely green?

Yes, most definitely..

SuperZoe says:

I think if we would all band together, we could make a difference and have our voices heard. It's time to change our oil dependency.

Bernie Hughes says:

It is absurd that drilling for oil underwater (and especially a mile down) is done at all. The only reason oil still runs us is because greedy people who only love MONEY have done all they can to make sure they still have cash flowing in. It does not bother them that the world we live in may be ruined by what they do. It is time for people who love other PEOPLE take control of our planet. Oil will not be used then. Sources of energy that are not destructive will come into use.

No and here's why..

Black Beauty

My thirst for you may never be quenched because of what you represent
Power, fame and fortune for those who possess you
A never ending thirst from those who need you
Black beauty, what have you done to me?
I will destroy whatever I can just to touch you
Kill whatever I need to, so that I may own you
Your talents are addicting, I cannot stop
Those that have the power to make a change just sit and watch
In the end I do not care, I do not care
The defenseless have no voice so I do not care

Put An End to Our Dependence On Oil!

It is time to wake up..

Why do we need to be so wasteful?

Americans consume 25 percent of the world's produced oil, but our nation holds less than 3 percent of the world's proven oil reserves!

Fact from NRDC.org

Boycotting BP is not the solution, as there are countless oil rigs lining the gulf coast alone! These are not all owned or contracted by BP.

What we need is a real change.

What would happen if we refused to drive our cars or fly in planes for just a week?

Do you think the impact would be felt?

Ask yourself if you would be willing to make that small sacrifice if you know it would help save our planet.

We need to send a message that we need a change. It is time to retire our oil dependency and move to solar, wind, wave and tidal energy.

These are all at our disposal, but until we demand it, nothing is going to happen. The technology can be made and perfected, just like the automobile was from the model T.

Check out all the oil platforms lining the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

I have been watching failure after failure to stop the flow of oil .It seems to me more thought is being to recapture instead of stopping its flow. I submitted to the president a simple solution which was to use our ghost ship fleet. Sink the heaviest onto the leak and crush the leaking pipe. If that doesn't do it sink another until there is enough weight on top to seal it off. Like I said, the object is to stop the flow !!! Just my thoughts on the matter I'm sure there are other ways to do it. We just can't afford to wait any longer!!!

My concern is everyone is boycotting BP, but they forget that all the companies have these off shore rigs and it could happen to any of them. We need to change our lives and use fuel conservatively so that these wells are not needed in the ocean.

We must find a way to stop the leak ASAP and at the same time replace the sorbent boom out there and put out new boom. Time is of the essence--
total boom being deployed is actually decreasing while the oil slick is growing! Why is that?

Bredman's idea; is to construct a 23" diameter Rubber lined, Kevlar bladder of approximately 1000 ft in length. The center of this bladder will have a perforated, sectional steel tube of roughly 8" in diameter with enough to reach the surface to a connecting pump ship. This steel tube which would serve two purposes, the first of would allow the bladder to be forced into position 1,500 feet down the well against the hellish pressures, and the second function of the steel tube would be to fill this bladder with sea water once in is in place. After the bladder expanded and has sufficiently gripped the well casing walls to stop the flow of oil, you could then fill the remaining 500 ft of damaged well with concrete and seal the damn thing off.

I had my proposal returned unopened. They think Im trying to make a buck like everyone else. This thing could be functional in a week or less and the red tape is a month thick.F*%$ it.
  • Noel Hale Jun 16, 2010 @ 1:59 pm | delete
My idea is to drill several 1/2 inch or other suitable size steel rods through the pipe cross section then inject mud or other suitable materials (aluminum foil, rags, golf balls, etc) to catch in the rods and plug off the leak.
  • MichaelBreaux Jun 15, 2010 @ 8:19 pm | delete
I have a fix for it.Sent information o it everywhere.I dont think they care anymore.
  • Paul Kane Jun 15, 2010 @ 7:28 pm | delete
The basic idea is to use a laser guided torpedo with a titanium case and full of lead or depleted uranium if more density is required. The tip would be tapered to aid in centering in the pipe.
The torpedo would have radio controlled fins to work with the guidence system, and could even be used to cause the torpedo to spin for the last few hundered feet before entering the pipe.
Lower the torpedo to the right depth(one or two thousand feet) or from the surface if the math works out and it can then be steered to the target. Have carbon steel ridges along the outside in slight swirl patern like a drill bit. Start spin far enough from target to acheive needed rpm and then the torpedo will lodge into the pipe dramatically reducing flow. The steering fins could be designed to sheer off as it enters the pipe.
I would love to discuss this more if you feel it sounds workable.
    Regards,
    Paul Kane
