The 1988 Brady Family Christmas Special

A Very Brady Christmas is a truly nostalgic trip for anyone like myself who grew up with The Brady Bunch. I just this minute finished watching it and have to say that I enjoyed seeing what happened to the Brady family members many years later...and, okay, I will even admit I cried. Surely, any trip down memory lane complete with near disaster, is worthy of a few tears. (Don't tell anyone.)

On this page, you will find details about A Very Brady Christmas, my review of the movie as well as thoughts from other people who have enjoyed it and sources for buying your own copy. If you have seen the movie, please let us know what you thought of it. If you haven't, I hope this page helps you decide whether or not you should. I would give this Brady family Christmas film five stars or five thumbs up and definitely say that if you enjoyed the Brady Bunch, you will enjoy this at times corny reunion movie.

Reviews of A Very Brady Christmas

Christmas TV Companion: 1980s Christmas: A Very Brady Christmas Review

"If you have any sentimentality at all for the original series, you'll need to see the cast and the characters now as adults. But this also means the 1970s groovy fashions and youthful innocence are gone and replaced with 1980s big hair, mom jeans, shoulder pads and incredulous adult innocence. But don't get me wrong--I LOVE THIS! And I know you do too--and that's why it still airs every year on TV despite its age."

A Very Brady Christmas - Wikipedia

"The success of the movie helped revive interest in the original television series. Thanks in large part to the movie's success, CBS and Sherwood Schwartz created a new television series in 1990, The Bradys, based on the characters' adult lives; only six episodes were produced. However, since the tone of the new series dealt with "adult" issues the former Brady kids had to deal with, it was nicknamed Brady-something, after the TV Show Thirtysomething."

History of the Brady Bunch

"In 1988 the Bradys were back again for a holiday celebration, "A Very Brady Christmas". Susan Olsen (Cindy) would be missing from this reunion, Jennifer Runyon took her place. This was a two hour movie in which the Bradys got together to celebrate Christmas, introducing the world to the spouses and children of the Brady kids. This movie was the highest rated TV-movie of 1988."

Amazon Customer Reviews of A Very Brady Christmas

The Amaon Customer reviews include words like cheesy, hokey and corney and that is an accurate description of the much beloved Brady Bunch. As D. Mart says, "it is the epitomy of cheesy but I love it." Another customer, Barry, says that it is so bad that you cannot help but like it. If you were not a Brady Bunch fan you may not be interested but if you were a fan, you need to see this Christmas special.

Is A Very Brady Christmas Available on DVD?

The Brady Bunch: The Complete SeriesIs A Very Brady Christmas available on DVD? Well the answer is twofold.

In general, A Very Brady Christmas is not available on DVD as a single DVD so if you want to watch it but don't want to buy a bunch of Brady episodes, you will have to buy a VHS videotape.

HOWEVER, I did manage to find it on DVD albeit as part of a very impressive boxed set. The boxed set is called The Brady Bunch: The Complete Series and includes Seasons 1 through 5 (a total of 117 episodes) on 21 discs packaged in the shag carpet cover packaging, as shown here PLUS it includes the Christmas special, A Very Brady Christmas, The Brady 500 and The Brady Kids episodes. If you or someone you know is interested in revisiting all of the episodes, this would be a great choice.
