A Younger Brain can be Yours if You Feed it like a King- Think Brain Foods
In order to have a brain that is young, fresh and brimming with energy and life you need to eat smart foods that boost your brain power and give you lots of pep and zing.
A well fed brain will improve your performance in all areas of your life and it will contribute to a greater level of mental clarity and focus. Plus it is a thinking center's key to the fountain of youth (or as close as you are going to get).
Your thinking center needs all of the help you can give it to help it remain working at full capacity. Keeping your brain well supplied with all of the right foods is essential to keeping it youthful and to promoting a long life for yourself.
The foods you consume have an important effect on the functioning of your brain. If you provide your brain with the appropriate nutrients you will be able to improve your brain power and ensure that your mental processes remain as sharp as a knife.
There are many types of brain foods that can support the brain in staying as young as possible and can encourage mental alertness and agility. We will tackle some of the most important ones here. The more of these foods you can incorporate into your daily diet, the healthier will your brain be.
Let us then build a library of some of the foods that will improve your wit, your upper story and your intellect. Food for the brain, here we come!
Brain Foods that Start with A- Think Avocado
Avocadoes help to encourage the flow of blood throughout the body very much like the flow of water in a healthy river or creek. The healthier the flow of blood is, the healthier will the brain be. Bear in mind however that avocadoes are high in calories. For this reason it is recommended that you eat no more than ½ to ¼ of this fruit on a daily basis.
Be Berry Healthy
Research studies have proven that blueberries improve motor skills and the ability to learn while they also effective in reducing the effects of many conditions that are related to age such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Blueberries help to protect the brain from suffering from oxidative stress as well.
But that is not all. Blueberries are not only helpful in slowing the rate at which the brain ages but they are actually able to reverse some of the damage that age brings about and from there improve memory. This miracle berry also fights inflammation which tends to occur more readily with advancing age.
It is recommended that you add approximately one cup or more of fresh or frozen blueberries to your diet on a regular basis. Eat them with your cereal or oatmeal or add them to yogurt. They also make a tasty treat all on their own. Other excellent berry choices include strawberries, cranberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Brain Foods with Color
Choose colors such as green, red, purple, orange and yellow when you are grocery shopping and experiment with a variety of recipes in order to ward off boredom with food.
Dark leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, bok choy, kale and romaine lettuce are excellent choices. These provide the highest level of antioxidants of all of the fruits and vegetables.
Add some red with the help of tomatoes, cherries and red peppers. Orange can come by way of oranges, carrots, pumpkin (the seeds are very healthy), apricots, mango and papaya. As for blue or purple produce, look to red grapes, blueberries, blackberries, eggplant and prunes.
Two to four servings per day is beneficial.
Are You a Nut or Perhaps Kind of Seedy?
Studies have proven that the more vitamin E you consume the better it is for your cognitive functions. Vitamin E is also helpful in improving memory. Some examples of excellent choices for nuts and seeds include flaxseed, walnuts, hazel nuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews, peanuts, filberts, Brazil nuts and unhydrogenated nut butters.
Add an ounce of nuts or seeds to your diet. You can easily add them to cereals, soups, stews, casseroles, etc. Make sure you don't overindulge however as both nuts and seeds are high in calories and can add pounds to your waistline.
Become a Brainiac with the Help of Wild Salmon
You have probably heard of the omega-3's as they are constantly being touted as an important aspect of good health. That is because they are. Salmon is food for the brain. The omega-3 that it is composed of helps to improve the functioning of the brain and also reduces the level of inflammation in the body. Go wild!
Other types of oily coldwater fish that are also of benefit include tuna, sardines, herring and rainbow trout. To improve your brain power you should consume salmon or another kind of omega-3 rich fish at least two or three times a week.
Neurotransmitters and Food for the Brain
What are neurotransmitters to be exact?
They are basically messengers that deliver information from one neuron in the brain to another.
Neurotransmitters derive from amino acids which are found in foods that are composed of a high quantity of protein. Examples of these include fish, meat and cheese. Vitamins and minerals then must convert amino acids into the neurotransmitters which then become all powerful.
Each and every one of us acquires neurotransmitters by way of the foods we consume on a daily basis. This is why we refer to the most significant of these foods as brain foods.
Brain Foods and You
To keep your brain remaining as young as it can be you need to add as many of these foods into your diet as you possibly can on a regular basis. Now you will be eating like a king or queen who rules the land!
Go forth and reign!
