The Brain Unleashed: Exploring the Powers of the Mind

Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness.

Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. Recognized as a component of many religions, it has been practiced since antiquity; however, it is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual and/or psychophysical practices which may emphasize different goals -- from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness -- as well as simply striving to achieve a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind.

Eastern meditation techniques have been adapted and increasingly practiced in Western culture.

The various techniques of meditation can be classified according to their focus. Some focus on the field or background perception and experience, referred to by some as "mindfulness." In mindfulness meditation, the meditator sits comfortably and silently, centering attention by focusing awareness on an object or process, such as the breath; a sound like a mantra, koan or riddle-like question; a visualization; or an exercise. The meditator is usually encouraged to maintain an open focus.

Other forms of meditation may focus on a preselected specific object, and are called "concentrative" meditation. There are also techniques that shift between the field and the object.

Concentration meditation is used in many religions and spiritual practices. Whereas in mindfulness meditation there is an open focus, in concentration meditation the meditator holds attention on a particular object -- for example, a repetitive prayer -- while minimizing distractions and bringing the mind back to concentrate on the chosen object.

This lens will focus on the wondrous powers of the mind -- and how harnessing that power can bring us increased health, happiness and well being. Topics explored will include meditation for stress relief and relaxation, the use of various meditation aides to focus and channel the power of the mind, and the use of binaural beats and altered states of consciousness. This content is offered for educational purposes only.

Meditation & Mind Control

Using the Power of Sound to Control the Subconscious Mind

I believe it is our mind that controls our body. When you learn to control your mind, everything will fall into place with little or no effort. The universe is full of success, why not make yourself available for that success?

If you are searching for a way to change your life, you only need to change your thoughts. You can accomplish this with Binaural Frequency Harmonics Meditation. It is common knowledge that we only use 3% to 4% of our brains. What if we could increase that to 10%. What could we accomplish?.

Scientists who have studied human brain function have determined that approximately 10% of our brain is conscious and 90% is subconscious. We have mind control over the conscious part of the brain. This is where we make everyday decisions and choices. What could happen if we learn to control the subconscious part of the brain? Would there be any limit to what we could accomplish?

A Definition of the Subconsious Mind
The subconscious mind is the part of the brain that controls the conscious part without thinking about it. It controls things such as our personality, our self-image, habits, and any actions that are not a choice making process. We are not aware of what our subconscious mind is thinking. Nevertheless, our subconscious mind is aware of what our conscious mind is thinking.

Since our subconscious mind knows what we are thinking about and makes no judgments, it will give us anything we want. So if we think, "why me?" "what if I am not good enough?" or "what is wrong with me?" the subconscious mind will give us that feeling of depression or stress.

If you are thinking, "I will just change my attitude to positive thinking," that would be a great start -- but, remember you have to control the thoughts of your subconscious to change the thoughts of your conscious mind. Just saying the words without believing the words will do nothing.

You must change your subconscious thoughts to change your life.

We Know the Goal...How Do We Accomplish It?
Can we learn to train our subconscious brain to give us anything and everything we want? I say yes! I have used brainwave entrainment with a binaural beats system and the success is unbelievable.

Brainwave entrainment utilizes binaural frequency harmonics to achieve altered states of consciousness quickly and easily in the human mind. Fundamentally, this technology works through two different oscillating frequencies interacting to produce a third frequency known as the binaural beat. The resulting binaural beat is a frequency that is too low for human ears to perceive, but the brain nonetheless will respond.

You can learn mind control.

When I first started my research, I was only interested in relieving my stress. It did not take long to realize I could do more than just relieve stress. Once you learn to meditate, you can learn to control your mind, conscious and subconscious.

Most people already meditate without knowing it. They may say, "I am going to my happy place" or "I need to be quiet now and gather my thoughts." Once you learn to control your subconscious, you can achieve whatever you want in your life.

Change your thoughts...change your life.

It All Starts with Binaural Beats
This brain entrainment starts with Binaural Beats. Brainwave entrainment with binaural beats utilizes binaural frequency harmonics to achieve altered states of consciousness quickly and easily in the human mind.

For example, if two frequencies 400 Hz and 410 Hz are played through stereo headphones to the right and left ears respectively, then a binaural beat of 10 Hz will be perceived within the brain.

The binaural beat can be produced to match any state of consciousness whether it be relaxation, meditation, deep sleep or even states that allow for telepathy, ESP, remote viewing, past life regression and manifestation. The process of the human mind producing brainwaves matching the binaural beat is known as the frequency following effect, and this is how auditory or binaural beats can "entrain the brain." EEG studies show that the period of the brain's response corresponds fundamentally to the frequency of the audio stimulus.

Repetitive beats and chanting have been used by Native American shamans, Hindu healers, Tibetan monks, Sufi dervishes and practiced Yogis to achieve brainwave states for healing and higher levels of consciousness.

The phenomena of frequency following and binaural beats has been used throughout history to achieve altered

states of consciousness and the art will no doubt continue to be perfected as technology and psychological

knowledge advances. Now with the availability of auditory stimulation via tapes, CDs and MP3s it is possible to bypass years of mental training with just a few minutes a day when desiring control over the mind and body.

The Journey to Discovering Yourself

Knowing yourself is a very important task that one has to undertake and the most challenging as well.

When one knows who he is and clearly understands what he wants, then he has a better option of discovering how to reach his own success, personal fulfillment and happiness.

Knowing one's true and inner self will be of great help in working to reach one's goals more effectively. It will guide one through the path to success. It will transport one to such calmness so to improve one's attitude as well as one's relationships and connections with others.

Psychologists devote their time helping individuals see and understand things within their inner self which they have long been suppressing from their own selves. This is natural, as people are skilled at such hiding games. Often, when one does not wish cope with a certain circumstance or situation, one denies that it had transpired, or translate it so to fit another different perception of the world.

Knowing yourself consequently, empowers and enables you to create different choices.

Success easily comes to those with pleasing personalities. However, this does not necessarily mean that one needs do what everyone wishes; rather, acquire a positive attitude of being respectful to the opinion of others at the same time remaining true to one's own beliefs.

Don't expect to suddenly go on a certain course and immediately become aware and know yourself. This is a voyage where one can board and allow it to transform one's life, for the better. The success of such journey depends deeply on how bravely you face yourself; on the way, you might discover certain things that you do not like and possibly opt to hide or deny it. Be strong and accept those negative things because it is only by accepting your faults can you truly change for the better.

Be open to accept and listen to the opinion of others, eager and willing to learn. Changing your judgment and views on account of more reliable facts is not a sign of weakness but of strength in your character. Always be inclined to offer help, be caring and polite but do not forget to keep your own personality.

Understand how you could guard yourself against responses triggered by emotions. You are vulnerable to miscalculation of judgment should you permit your emotions to interfere. Indeed, everything that one does is based on one's emotions, but angry or careless emotions does not have a place when it comes to decision making. Take control of your emotions and delay conclusions, decisions and choices when in a very emotional state.

Develop enthusiasm in yourself. Enthusiasm draws good relationships and success. It is that positive outlook that radiates on you that individuals like dealing with. Your positive and enthusiastic outlook will contaminate and encourage those around you to also be enthusiastic and positive, therefore become cooperative.

Also, be ready to face unreasonable and negative people and never let them destroy you. Stay reasonable and calm.

The basic principle of knowing yourself is that every individual is responsible, in control and generate their own life encounter. This is a process very much complex that may be severely obstructed when one is unconscious of how one functions, or if one has a misunderstanding of thyself.

Rationalizations are used by many to give justifiable explanation for their actions. One can pretend that the problem is to be blamed on the other person. This is known as projection.

You therefore need to discover and improve your true person and not what others perceive you to be, and also not who you believe you must be, but the person that you truly are. How you manage your life, guide others, take charge, perform and behave in relationships really depends on how effectively you use your strengths and identify your weaknesses that you will discover when you truly know your "self."

Knowing yourself will enable you to develop your full potential and be happy, contented and fulfilled. Whether one's idea and understanding of success speaks about fulfillment in business, friendship, love, sports, a blend of all these or another thing altogether, knowing yourself and working on to change for the better will enable you to achieve your goals. Then when you reach your goals, indeed you will turn out to be a much happier person. And that is success in its truest sense.

Have You Talked Yourself Into a Rut?

Every day, we each "speak" to ourselves, providing feedback on how we're doing. Usually it's negative feedback. As a result, we feel worse - and end up in a rut.

By changing our "self-talk," we can actually begin to feel better.

We can actually reprogram our minds to enjoy greater happiness, wealth, confidence, love, success, health - and more -- all by simply changing what we say to ourselves.

Discover an amazing system that details the precise steps that you need to follow to dramatically change your life today.

Eliminate Stress & Improve Focus with Meditation

Meditation refers to a state where your body and mind are consciously relaxed and focused. Practitioners of this art report increased awareness, focus, and concentration, as well as a more positive outlook in life.

Meditation is most commonly associated with monks, mystics and other spiritual disciplines. However, you don't have to be a monk or mystic to enjoy its benefits. And you don't even have to be in a special place to practice it. You could even try it in your own living room!

Although there are many different approaches to meditation, the fundamental principles remain the same. The most important among these principles is that of removing obstructive, negative, and wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming the mind with a deep sense of focus. This clears the mind of debris and prepares it for a higher quality of activity.

The negative thoughts you have - those of noisy neighbors, bossy officemates, that parking ticket you got, and unwanted spam- are said to contribute to the 'polluting' of the mind, and shutting them out is allows for the 'cleansing' of the mind so that it may focus on deeper, more meaningful thoughts.

Some practitioners even shut out all sensory input - no sights, no sounds, and nothing to touch - and try to detach themselves from the commotion around them. You may now focus on a deep, profound thought if this is your goal. It may seem deafening at first, since we are all too accustomed to constantly hearing and seeing things, but as you continue this exercise you will find yourself becoming more aware of everything around you.

If you find the meditating positions you see on television threatening - those with impossibly arched backs, and painful-looking contortions - you need not worry. The principle here is to be in a comfortable position conducive to concentration. This may be while sitting cross-legged, standing, lying down, and even walking.

If the position allows you to relax and focus, then that would be a good starting point. While sitting or standing, the back should be straight, but not tense or tight. In other positions, the only no-no is slouching and falling asleep.

Loose, comfortable clothes help a lot in the process since tight fitting clothes have a tendency to choke you up and make you feel tense.

The place you perform meditation should have a soothing atmosphere. It may be in your living room, or bedroom, or any place that you feel comfortable in. You might want an exercise mat if you plan to take on the more challenging positions (if you feel more focused doing so, and if the contortionist in you is screaming for release). You may want to have the place arranged so that it is soothing to your senses.

Silence helps most people relax and meditate, so you may want a quiet, isolated area far from the ringing of the phone or the humming of the washing machine. Pleasing scents also help in that regard, so stocking up on aromatic candles isn't such a bad idea either.

The monks you see on television making those monotonous sounds are actually performing their mantra. This, in simple terms, is a short creed, a simple sound which, for these practitioners, holds a mystic value.

You do not need to perform such; however, it would pay to note that focusing on repeated actions such as breathing, and humming help the practitioner enter a higher state of consciousness.

The principle here is focus. You could also try focusing on a certain object or thought, or even, while keeping your eyes open, focus on a single sight.

One sample routine would be to - while in a meditative state - silently name every part of you body and focusing your consciousness on that part. While doing this you should be aware of any tension on any part of your body. Mentally visualize releasing this tension. It works wonders.

Studies have shown that meditation does bring about beneficial physiologic effects to the body. In all, meditation is a relatively risk-free practice and its benefits are well worth the effort.

Appreciating the Silence that Meditation Offers

Meditation is an exercise that soothes the mind, relaxes one's body and lessens tension. With constant practice, the rushing and raising of one's thoughts in his mind holds back, and consequently, the mind relaxes.

All people have that chance to experience and undergo a much greater life; if they so choose. Abundance, peace and happiness are one's inheritance that is only achieved when one practices centering and quieting the mind. Not simple to achieve, especially in a very noisy society, but it can be done.

The mind constantly is noisy, and invaded by thoughts of endless task lists, responsibilities, and stresses. When those streams of thoughts are blocked off, a different section of the mind that is bestowed with the capability of transforming knowledge into virtually usable concepts becomes active.

The goal is to silence your thoughts, and calm the mind.

Meditation provides an entryway so as to calm the mind and retrieve answers to problems. Just as the body requires regular exercise to retain its strength, our minds need constant practice to quiet down its unpredictable feelings and thoughts.

Silencing the mind through meditation permits one to bond and attach with one's central being so that you might experience the fulfillment and peace within.

Curiosity is what stimulates the thoughts -- a need to comprehend a new event that engrosses one's thought. Until such time that mind fully comprehends, it will not stop thinking. Each time that a new thought enters the mind, it immediately gets lively and active; as thinking is the minds chief activity.

In contrast, meditation entails silencing the mind in order that one can obtain innermost and deep guidance. It requires us to silence the mind -- releasing the past, along with any feelings which may be trapping us in it.

To silence the mind also means having the courage to release our expectations and fears for the future, instead living in the present -- the only period and phase of one's life that one can and should exist.

Happiness increases with regular meditation. Love, understanding, tolerance, inner strength and bravery also increases. The ability to concentrate is sharpened, so that one's mind will be stronger and in control. It is in this silent state of mind that we can attract positive forces, and focus the subconscious to set a goal for our own success.

Employing Relaxation Techniques for Stress Relief

The unhealthy affects of stress can be evidenced in physical as well as mental and emotional health problems. Besides heart and digestive problems, stress can contribute to overall muscle aches, stiffness and even pain.

Relaxation techniques can help manage the affects of stress on the body as well as the mind.

Stair Step Relaxation Technique
Begin with a series of deep, cleansing breaths. Feel your body relax, as you slowly breath in and out. It can be helpful to imagine the tension and stress leaving your body as you exhale, while peace and calm fill you, as you inhale clean, fresh air.

Once you have done this for a period of two to three minutes, begin to experience the tension leaving your muscles, one at a time.

Once you are ready, picture yourself at the top of a flight of 10 stairs. Take one step down this set of stairs, and imagine that your body, your mind, and your spirit feel more relaxed, and more at ease as you reach this step. Say the number "one," as you descend.

With each succeeding step you can experience a deeper and deeper state of calm and relaxation. As you descend upon each step say the corresponding number of the step you are on.

When you reach 10, which is at the bottom of this set of steps, you will be entirely calm and relaxed. Any problems or worries you had will have vanished, and you will feel totally at peace.

Once you have experienced this state for a moment or two, you will be ready to come back up the set of stairs. With each step that you climb, you will become a little more awake and alert to your surroundings.

Your body and mind will remain at calm and at peace even after you return to the final step. You will feel renewed energy, and a renewed sense of purpose and joy, as you return to the top of the stairs.
