Bread and Butter Cottage in Chiang Saen
Bread and Butter Cottage is a Lanna-style guesthouse located in a traditonal Thai village in the low hills close to Chiang Saen Lake in Chiang Rai province of northern Thailand.
The cottage is simple but comfortable with four bedrooms, catering for up to 10 people with essentials such as bathrooms with warm water, a refrigerator and kitchen all supplied.

Chiang Saen
Chiang Saen is a small, ancient Thai town situated on the Mekong River and is located close to the famous "Golden Triangle".Chiang Saen was founded in around 1328 and was, for while, the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. The remains of the city's walls, moat and many temples can be seen today and are interesting to visit.
The Chiang Saen area also contains some of the largest and most important wetlands remaining in Thailand, with Chiang Saen Lake, the Mekong and Yonok Wetlands being superb areas for birdwatching.
Birdwatching at Chiang Saen
The Chiang Saen region is an excellent one for birdwatching, with many species occurring nowhere else in Thailand.Chiang Saen Lake has large congregations of waterfowl in the "winter" months, with a few Baer's Pochard occurring anually; this species is becoming increasingly rare internationally.
The River Mekong has some good birds when the water is low and they can collect on the sand bars in the river. Species such as Long-billed Plover, River Lapwing and Small Pratincole are the specialities here.
Yonok Wetlands is another excellent birdwatching location in Chiang Saen withlarge roosts of Pied and Eastern Marsh Harriers as well as Grass Owl.
