Breakbeat Music and NuSkool Breaks

The style of breakbeat or "broken beat" music has evolved over the years to create a fresh new style of breaks called "NuSkool" breakbeat.  This lens will expose some of the hottest new artists, DJs, and producers in breaks.

Funky Breaks - O'town Style

Although it is popular around the world, Breakbeat music comes almost entirely from two very different places: Florida and England. In the 1990's, a very talented young disc jockey named DJ Icey popularized Breaks in the Florida rave scene and particularly at the legendary Orlando nightclub called "The Edge".

The sound was characterized by the broken beat sound of the Amen Break added to deep electronic sub bass sounds creating a complex, but powerful rhythm that is perfect for breakdancing. The sound caught on quickly with many other Florida DJs and artists and became the signature sound of Florida's electronic music scene.
