Breakfast Club Brings Our Neighborhood a Sense of Community
Ranked #25,918 in People, #543,594 overall
What began as a monthly gathering to help different people with their ''barn raising'' projects quickly morphed into a potluck breakfast --- meeting new friends and neighbors, enjoying great food, and seeing what great ideas we could get from the home of that month's host/hostess!
Great Ideas For Our Own Projects!
great gardens, solar hot water, living off the grid and much more!
We see fabulous gardens, great bathrooms, Solar Hot Water systems (email tomfulker at gmail.com for additional info), Water Catchments, Off-Grid living, On-Grid living, Hacienda B&Bs, mountains, high desert, neighbor's B&B; we just love what each is doing!!!!!!!So here is what we do.... we ask the neighborhood who would like to host the Breakfast club, and they sign up for a chosen month. People with large yards and great outdoor facilities tend to choose warm months. Thankfully we have a few large homes in the neighborhood, and they generally host the cold-month bfast clubs. A few people are on the ''emergency'' list; if someone is suddenly ill, or no one has chosen that month and we are in need, we can call on our emergency folks.
First Saturday of Every Month
We ALWAYS have Breakfast Club, the First Saturday of Every Month, come rain or shine! We even do it Jan. 1 if that's a Saturday! We have chosen to do it between 9am and noon. Some people stay later if the host/hostess is into more visiting. ANY Saturday of the month would be great, it's up to your neighborhood. Learn How To Generate FREE Leads 4 Life

Bonus Bfast Club and Satellites
We have gotten so big now that ''sub neighborhoods'' are now having a ''bonus bfast club'' the 3rd or 4th Saturday of each month. Some have chosen to have a monthly luncheon, some are doing monthly dinners. All in the Spirit of Friendship and getting to know each other better---our lives are sooooooooo busy that if we don't MAKE the time to gather and visit, the years will get by without really meeting the people who live around us. Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
The Bfast club host home provides the Coffee and Tea. Everyone else brings the food to share around. Some make eggs, some make chocolate cake! There is no such thing as an off-limit food!!! The host also has a FEW plates and cups and flatware to share; for years, the host provided all the cups plates etc, but we decided this was SO wasteful that we have stopped that practice.......SO, in an effort to DO OUR PART TO REDUCED DEPENDENCE ON OIL, we are now bringing our own REAL forks, knives, plates, coffee mugs, and napkins. Most have found it easiest to have one Reusable Shopping Bag that hangs in a special place; in there are the washed dishes for next bfast club, a towel in which to wrap the dirty dishes the day of bfast club, and the name tags!!!!
ALSO, we have our own NAME TAGS. One neighbor diligently tried to keep up with all the new folks, the lost name tags, etc.... what a job! Making your own is the best!!
Newsletter & Blog keep us connected
I am the webmaster for the Neighborhood Newsletter, and i send out not only the news of the Bfast Club location, but also the lost dogs, found dogs, star and planet updates, who has this or that for sale, who has a need.......... here is our Breakfast Club Blog that keeps everyone informed of services that different neighbors are offering. KEEPING IT LOCAL is one of our goals!!Our Newsletter on Yahoo Groups, AKA AnnieGrams, helped us round up the wandering bison in our area; read the whole story of the Buffalo Capture HERE!
And when we had our huge snowstorm of late 2006, early 2007, we REALLY needed to stay connected. People were stuck in snowbanks, had no food or had food to give, needed prescriptions filled, had 4X4s with chains and could give rides...... it was a wonderful time of connection and help! The following videos will give you an idea of the storm....gorgeous but challenging! It had been about 50 years since that much snow had been seen in these parts!
Please Stop By & Say Howdie!
We'd love to hear if you, too, have a great Bfast club or neighborhood gathering!
