I have had a long time love affair with horses which started from a very early age. I wouldn't be surprised if the first words I spoke were "I want a horse." My folks not really understanding this bought me a Breyer horse as a substitute. While it was not anything like having a "real" horse, I still managed to fall in love with Breyer. And I've been collecting them ever since. It's been some odd 40 years later but I still look forward to the new horses and Breyer just keeps getting better and better at capturing the beauty and grace of the living animal.
Over the years Breyer has grown from merely creating rather children's toys more to sculptural. In this manner Breyer has started a collectible series called the Holiday Horse. These little equine art forms are just stunning. Breyer has elevated their simple horse toy into true works of art. And as an equestrian artist, that just makes them appeal to me more.
I created this page to feature the Holiday Horse Series that are yet available as well as a few lovely horse Christmas tree ornaments also created by Breyer.

Breyer Animal Creations (or just Breyer), a division of Reeves International. Breyer first started in 1950. It is a manufacturer of model animals, and is one of the oldest model animal companies in existence. The company specializes in models made from cellulose acetate (a form of plastic) and are best known for their model horses, although various wildlife and domestic animal models are also produced, including an extensive line of dog breeds. Its inexpensive, realistic model horses are some of the most renowned model horses in the industry. Breyer manufactures well over 5 million models annually.

Breyer Model Horses As An Art Form
Elevating The Toy Horse To Art
A friend of mine sculpts horses and has in fact created a few models for Breyer. Seeing her process and knowing the work and craftsmanship that the artists employ when creating the models has given me a far greater appreciation for the art behind the collectible. Carol Herden is an extremely talented sculptor of horses though she is perhaps best known for her cattle. She and I have attended Breyerfest together sharing booths as as artist vendors, as well as more recently the World Percheron Congress. I think it is a testament to Breyer that they hirs talented artisans who actually understand horses to create the sculptures that eventually become Breyer models.

- Hi Mona, my elder daughter collected these Breyer horses,which are really beautiful I still have two of them and a foal on my bookshelf. My young nieces want to take them away when they come for a visit :). But of course I keep them as a memory for those many happy hours we spend playing and crafting stables,saddles and other accessoires for them.

- I have an old Breyer collection (1970's) and stopped collecting before they came out with the Holiday Horses. I didn't even know they were doing this. They are gorgeous!

My name is Mona Majorowicz I am a professional artist who has been making my living selling my work for some time now. I am an animal artist, (meaning I paint critters) who works primarily in Oil Pastel or Water Soluble Pencil.I own and operate Wild Faces Gallery with my husband Mike in a small rural town in Iowa.
