1. The first step necessary to adjust the iPhone screen brightness is obviously to turn it on. As always, being up to date with software updates helps but isn't necessary.
2. Next, click the "Settings" app icon to enter iPhone settings.
3. Now you will want to click the "Brightness" setting button in the Settings page, which is 4th from the top.
4. Once in the Brightness settings screen, you will see two options.

The first (on top), is a sliding bar allowing you to directly control the iPhone screen brightness. Sliding this to the right makes the screen brighter and sliding this to the left makes it more dim.

The other option on bottom is the Auto-Brightness option. By turning this feature on, the iPhone will use it's light sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness for optimal viewing based on the ambient light conditions.

Even if this option is on, you can slide the brightness slider to make a temporary manual adjustment.
