Finding a print company for you - Brisbane
I don't know about you but I used to find finding a local printer to print up all my business marketing products such as business cards, flyers, letter heads etc was something of a head ache forming event.
I live in Brisbane Australia and there are many Brisbane print firms but sorting through them all and finding the Brisbane printing company that has the right price and as well a product of high quality was a touch and go affair.
I have worked out my own checklist of do's and don'ts when selecting a printer, my list mainly applies to Brisbane printers but I'm sure it could be used across the world as well. This list works well for me and I hope it could work well for you as well.
So let's get started, remember I am mainly addressing Brisbane printing so there may be some items on this list that don't apply to you:
1. Truly you could beat word of mouth approval and goes doubly so for Brisbane print businesses. Your chances of being let down by a printing company after someone has told you that the company is reliable are somewhat diminished if you have already been informed that they are a good printer. So phone a friend or someone you think might know something about the printers in your area. A simple rule but this will save you.

2. If possible have a search around the internet and see if you could find anything in forums or the likes relating to problems that that printing company might have or hopefully find positive testimonials about the printing company you are selecting. This isn't always possible as some printing firms don't have an online presence; I know that most Brisbane print firms do so this works well in Brisbane.

3. Know what kind of printing you want to get done. If it's just a small run then your best bet is opt for digital printing as it's a lot more cost effective however the quality is less than offset printing but offset printing is only cost effective for larger runs. Knowing what kind of printing you need done helps you select which printer you are going to use. In Brisbane printing firms most of them print one format or the other.

4. If they have a website then go and check it out and take particular notice of their clients.
Existing and previous clients are a great way to gauge a printing firms competence.

Now these things might seem obvious to some and they are to me but it took me a while to actually use them instead of just knowing I should. Most of the time with Brisbane printers I could get by with just these two rules and not end up with a business card that looks faded or flyers that are the wrong size.
But there are times when none of these rules could be applied. Say for example I have to use a Brisbane printing for a product that no one else prints and therefore I'm forced to use one I haven't used before. What should you do in this situation?
Well here are some points that have helped me in the past with Brisbane printing and I'm sure will work for you as well:
· When you phone and speak to them are they helpful or are they curt? If they are rude from the start then this is not a good place to start your printing job.

· A lot of Brisbane printing firms will show you a proof of your job before they go ahead with the full run, ask for a proof first as you don't want a whole box of business cards your never going to use.

· If you could't get a proof of your job then ask to see a sample of other prints of the same product like business cards or flyers or whatever it is you are printing.

· Try to find the best price but don't go for what you know to be a lesser printer unless you don't need quality. I have ended up getting a job printed twice at another Brisbane printer because I tried to go too cheap and in the end it cost me.

And remember after all of these things there is the whole world of online printers as well and they are just like local printers, some are great printers and some are far from great, once again try word of mouth first as this rule rarely lets you down.
