Brittany - France

Ranked #71,052 in Sports & Recreation, #1,629,650 overall

I visited this beautiful region on the west coast of France for the first time with my wife, our son Eric and my in-laws in the summer of 1971 and I fell in love with it. I have been back several times by myself or with members of my family as we have family and friends in the Cotes d'Armor department on the northern coast. When she was a child my wife used to climb on the "Sentinelle" at left in beautiful Port Blanc.

I learned not too long ago that Marc Aurele de Foy Suzor-Cote, well known painter from my home town of Arthabaska, Quebec, loved Brittany. You can see his paintings of Port-Blanc and of Arthabaska in this gallery of some of his works.

Brittany for the visitors

Bretagne Nouvelle Vague
Brittany, an enchanting land on the edge of the world. It is difficult to resist its charm and to escape being captivated by this land created by the vagaries of wind, water and time. Along a coastline where steep cliffs give way to fine sandy beaches, historic fishing villages nestle side by side with renowned seaside resorts. Inland, the heath merges into rolling hills and lakes and marshes conceal oases of green.

Brittany is a region proud of its roots and it has successfully retained its customs and traditions. It is however the sense of magic pervading Brittany which makes it a place apart and somewhere unique. Impossible to describe, its special atmosphere is instantly recognisable and quite unforgettable (Adapted from the website).

No wonder that I was charmed when I visited the first time and still am each time I go.
