Brixham Pirate Festival 2009

Ahoy Mateys! Brixham Pirate Festival 2009 took place 1st - 4th May.

Over 1,300 pirates attended and double that number of landlubbers descended on the small fishing town of Brixham in South Devon, UK.

One of the main attractions took place on Sunday 3rd May when the world record attempt for the largest gathering of pirates was counted. Captain Blood 'n' Guts confirmed that in all 1,378 pirates in correct attire were recorded by the adjudicators. The previous record was 1,140 in one place at one time in Germany. The Brixham Buccaneers hosted the event.

A great deal of skirmishing (some planned!), sea shanty singing, drinking of ale and cider and general piracy took place.

One notable pirate who could be found hanging around the harbour was Captain Jack Sparrow himself - portrayed by a very convincing Jonty Depp.
