Tip No 2: Know the Technical Details
It's a nightmare if your brochures don't come out the way you design it
- Wrong paper size. You design it for 8.5 x 11. The printer prints it on 8 x 10. Imagine the horror.
- Empty / white spaces in the edges. This is common when you have a very exact paper and graphic sizes when designing, and you put those graphics somewhere towards the edges. The solution: allow for print bleed where you design the brochure with 1/8th inch extra space beyond each edges to allow solid ink coverage throughout your brochure
- Blurry images. Be mindful that typical resolution on computer screens is 72 dots per inch, whereas to reach good resolution on print papers you need at least 300 dpi images.
- Cheap appearance. Always choose heavier paper (100lb stock paper is better than 80lb one without significant price difference) to appear professional.
