What is glass art?
Glass art, sometimes referred to as art glass, is the art of using broken glass in different mediums. Some small, like soap dishes and paper weights. Some big, like the artist who made a complete house of it Some may do glass art as hobbies, some may do do glass art as a profession. But, no matter what your choice in the world of glass art. You will learn more about it here, as well as references to where to go if you want to start to dabble in it. So lets begin.
What is Glass art
What is glass art? It is the art of creating stained glass, lampworking - using a torch flame to mold and shape the glass being used, glass casting, beadmaking glass fusing, and the making of glass shapes through glass blowing. There is a great deal of variety and style that exists in the realm of art work.
Mosaic Art!
Where glass art can be broken glass, melted glass and glass that has been molded, Mosaic Art takes small pieces of glass or colored stone and places it in a specific pattern. It may require more of an artist touch, in respect to some want to make designs out of it (like on the side of a bank). It can also be used to a random design.
Blowing glass!
If you want it, the opportunity is there for you. You can become an artist in the art of glass blowing. In this area, you can blow glass into different shapes and sizes. You can make vases, dishes, glasses, art and more.
With glass blowing, there are three stages that are to be down for this type of art work.
First: Called the furnace, is where there is a "crucible" of molten glass.
Second: Called the Glory Hole, is where the pieces are reheated in between molding and shaping of your item
Third: Called the Lehr, is the final step and where the glass is cooled slowly. How slow you ask, hours to days, all depending on the size and type of glass. Now, the cooling is in done in chambers, allowing for the glass to cool slowly. If it cools to quickly it will crack and the item is destroyed. Consequently, you have to start over again.
