What is The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir?

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, 17 Smith Street, Brooklyn, NY, is directed by Carol Cymbala, the wife of Senior Pastor Jim Cymbala.

When pastor Jim Cymbala and his wife Carol came to the Brooklyn Tabernacle in 1972, the church consisted of 15-20 people. Carol started a choir about a year later with nine people. Today, this 285-voice choir has recorded three videos, two DVDs, and numerous albums, winning six Grammy Awards. The choir brings together people from all walks of life.

Although she cannot read or write music, the Lord has given her a special gift to direct and create from the heart through the power of the Holy Spirit. A commitment to rehearse for up to five hours every Friday night of the year. A commitment to sing during two church services every Sunday. A commitment to pay for there own travel expenses whenever the choir performs on the road. And most of all, a commitment to ministry. "This is about Christ and the gospel," says choir director, Carol Cymbala. "Lives aren't changed because we've performed well. It's because of God's spirit and people hearing the truth of the gospel."
