Located in Wheaton, Maryland, Brookside Gardens has been delighting local families and garden lovers for over 40 years. With a full roster of classes, field trips, a horticultural library, seasonal displays like "Wings of Fancy" in the Conservatory and "Garden of Lights" in winter, Brookside is a year round garden destination and a great community gathering place. Relax in the rose garden or fragrance garden, walk the extensive grounds or reflect in the Japanese teahouse located in the Gude garden. Whether you spend an hour or a day at Brookside Gardens, you won't be dissapointed by the variety and beauty of the horticultural displays. ADMISSION FREE EXCEPT FOR WINGS OF FANCY AND GARDEN OF LIGHTS, SEE BELOW.

Wings of Fancy 2011

Enjoy live butterflies from around the world during Wings of Fancy, Brookside's annual butterfly show. Located in the Conservatory, admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children.

    This is beautiful. We have something similar to the Wings of Fancy butterfly garden here in Chicago at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. I've got some great shots of the kids there. You may enjoy looking at a page I've got on botanical gardens - different part of the world, but still enjoyable for a nature enthusiast. - http://www.squidoo.com/jamaican-gardens .     I spent a day at Brookside Gardens back in 1989. Lovely then, and from your lens, I see it is still very much worth visiting.

    Hi Virginia,
    Yes, Brookside Gardens is such a great place. Wings of Fancy is even better this year with the addition of some African butterfly species, and they've published an AWESOME butterfly guide specifically for this show. The guide, for an additional $3 makes it really easy to identify the butterflies and ID your photographs.
