Brother SE 400 Embroidery & Sewing Machine with USB Review

Brother SE400 Embroidery and Sewing Machine With USB Computer Connectivity

The Brother SE-400 is the perfect Christmas gift for anyone who loves to sew and wants to get into embroidery or upgrade her old sewing machine to a machine that embroiders as well as does regular sewing.

What I love about the Brother SE400 is how intuitive the computerized features are. The interactive LCD touch-screen is so easy to operate and understand. And it has a top-loading drop-in bobbin with a threading system that is second to none. Sewing is so much faster and more enjoyable when you don't have to fuss with the machine. The ability to embroider will inspire many new creative projects.

The Brother SE400 is basically the same as the very popular SE-350. But the SE-400 is upgraded with a USB port and cable that connects to your computer for importing embroidery designs. This means that you can download and stitch a vast number of free and low-cost embroidery patterns from the Internet directly from your computer. You don't need to buy expensive software and card reader/writer such as the Brother PED-Basic Software to write the patterns on a memory card first.

The possibilities are endless and limited only by your creative imagination. You really can't go wrong with the Brother SE400 in value for your money. And it would ruin the surprise, but if you get it before Christmas, think of all the cool Christmas gifts and decorations she could make with it now.

“My friends and family love the designs I have made on clothing, pillows, shams, aprons, etc.”

Imagine What You Could Create With A Brother SE400!

The embroidery features will add a whole new dimension of surface embellishment to your creative projects. Here are just a few ideas for wonderful projects you could make with the Brother SE400:

  • brother SE400 embroideryTurn inexpensive items for the home such as pillows, towels, place mats into exquisite designer fashions by adding your own embellishments.

I have this machine and LOVE it but was wondering if anyone can answer a question about it. I would like to know if I am able to purchase different stitches for this machine. I know I can purchase/download embroidery designs, but what about stitches? I would like something different than what this machine offers. Anyone?
  • LoveEmbroidery May 16, 2012 @ 11:32 pm | delete
    Hi Sarah,
I've never heard any way to add sewing stitches. Thinking of the control panel and functions, I can't even think how it would work. But I could be wrong and would be very happy to be corrected. Could you possible fake it with embroidery designs? Like in-the-hoop projects that sew felties and things together with embroidery stitches.
  • Sarah May 17, 2012 @ 2:13 am | delete
You could fake it with the embroidery stitches but I think it would take WAY too long! I just wish Brother would come out with a card that you can plug in and have more stitches to choose from. There are TONS of fancy stitches out there but they are for other machines. :(

My mother taught me to sew on her old Singer machine, and she would have loved one of these machines for all of her quilt work and other sewing projects.
  • LoveEmbroidery Mar 14, 2012 @ 3:48 pm | delete
Same with me. Then I bought my own Singer when I was in high school. Just threw it out a couple of years ago. They don't make them like that anymore -- at least not at a price I can afford. But I love my Brother SE400.

You know I noticed on that fashion/sewing show on TV, can't remember the title, that all the designers had Brother sewing machines in their work room.
  • LoveEmbroidery Feb 29, 2012 @ 9:47 am | delete
Project Runway. Brother is the exclusive supplier of machines for the show and has several models with the Project Runway logo and a cute rolling tote bag.

    A very nice sewing machine
  • Graceonline Jan 17, 2012 @ 11:19 am | delete
Not yet. I am researching much simpler, more basic machines for the routine mending, hemming, and occasional sewing I would like to do. I can see how wonderful this machine would be for anyone interested in more creative crafts and projects. Nicely done. I particularly appreciated the Amazon review module. Blessed.

Yes, if you're not into machine embroidery, you can get what you need in a much less expensive regular sewing machine. Thanks for blessing my lenses.
    Blessings, Kamala
