Breastfeeding MUST HAVES
Here's a list of some of the must haves for breastfeeding mothers
One Teat at a Time with Evenflo
I would recommend it for women who pump occasionally, but definitely not for a mom who pumps exclusively.
Now that I have had my baby boy (Oct. 16th) I have gotten to actually use my breast pump. I was breastfeeding (no pumping) exclusively for the first couple of weeks - until I got a nasty yeast infection on my nipples - and he got thrush. It hurt way too much to feed him at the breast all of the time, so I tried out the pump.
This pump is a single pump, meaning you can only pump one breast at a time - though there is a double version available at a higher price. This means it can take a while to get what you need. For me, it usually takes about 10 minutes per breast and I get about 2oz on each pumping every two hours, if I wait longer I can get about 6oz total.
This pump also has automatic cycling to simulate baby's sucking. This automatic thing isn't so great as it is better to have control of the rate at which it does this. I find it is too slow. You can control the amount of suction, which is nice, and the highest setting is the highest I could take I believe so it is very good.
The pump horn comes with a silicone cushion insert for your comfort, but I found it just made the process longer. Also after washing the insert a few times, I found it didn't want to even stay on the horn while pumping. Now I don't even use it, and it isn't that uncomfortable without it anyway. As far as comfort goes I think any pump would be just a bit uncomfortable, I mean who really wants to sit there and pump their breast for up to a half an hour.
The pump comes with the AC adapter and can also work on 3 AA batteries. I have used it with batteries and found it lasted a lot longer than I expected - about 5 pumping sessions. The cord for the AC is pretty long, but not long enough for really moving around from the spot you start pumping at - so you will want to have a nice little spot set up for pumping which is close to an outlet.
As far as noise goes - this one is loud. I can't hear the TV without turning it way up - and I find myself asking my husband "What did you say?" over and over again when using it. It is very easy to clean though with only 3 parts including the bottle. Only one part is small - and I mean small - it has went down our garbage disposal once and we had to get the flashlight out to get it back.
Overall I am happy with this pump. I pump at least 3 bottles a day, and it can keep up with me. But because I am pumping so much now, I have a new double electric pump on the way. I did it - I invested over $150.00 in a "good pump". So although this pump gets it done - it does take some precious time to do it, time that a new mom just doesn't have. I plan on keeping it around in case my new one ever breaks down or has any problems. So it will remain as my back up pump.
I would recommend it for women who pump occasionally, but definitely not for a mom who pumps exclusively. The reasonable price tag makes it a good choice for any breastfeeding mom who thinks she may need a pump around for occasional use.

Just Another Reason to Love Lansinoh
I would recommend these breast milk storage bags to any breastfeeding mom who pumps - these are good for when you are in a hurry.
Lansinoh is a brand name most breastfeeding moms will come to know and love. They make breast pads, nipple cream, a double electric pump, and of course the milk storage bags. Because I had been using their nipple cream and breast pads, when looking for a good milk storage bag, I went with Lansinoh.
These easy to open, storage bags are great, and a must have for any mom who pumps her breast milk. They are pre-sterilized, medical plastic and have a great no leak seal. I have never had a problem with these bags leaking. Seriously, you can shake them upside down and nothing will come out, as there are two "zipper-like" seals to make sure nothing ever does.
They also have a nice little spot on the top of the bag (above where you seal it) to write the date. Because it is above where you seal it, and where your milk goes you don't have to worry about accidentally poking the bag and loosing all of that milk. These bags are designed quite nicely. And this shows in the fact that they sit upright when placed in a flat surface. Though I would recommend you freeze them on their side to make them flat - and easier/quicker to thaw. Plus when they are flattened they make for easier storage in a little freezer like mine.
These storage bags measure up to 6 oz. though you can fit more into the bag, after 6 you wouldn't be sure how much you had in there. You usually wouldn't want to store more than 6oz. in one bag though because you never know how much baby will eat, and wasting breast milk is such a shame - it's like gold because of the time you took to pump it. These are the biggest milk storage bags I have found yet, much bigger than most others.
They can be costly with a price range of $7.95 - $9.99 for 25. Storage bottles would be the cheaper choice, but if you are always in a hurry like me, and maybe a little lazy, they are so worth it. No sterilizing needed! When you use the milk - you throw them away. Plus because you are breastfeeding you are still saving money over formula.
One bad thing is - they are nearly impossible to pump directly into with either of my pumps (Ameda Purely Yours and Evenflo Comfort Select).Because of this I have to pump into the pump bottle and transfer the milk, in which I loose a little milk - and again it's like gold so even a quarter ounce of milk is a sad thing to loose. But because these bags are so easy, safe, and convenient - it is a very small price to pay to not be able to pump directly into them.
I would recommend these breast milk storage bags to any breastfeeding mom who pumps on occasion or exclusively, even if you usually use bottles for storage, these are good for when you are in a hurry. So at least pick up a 25 count bag and give them a try, again it is a trusted brand name.
Lansinoh Storage Bags
Breastfeeding is Beautiful
And Natural
Keep those TaTas Dry!
Lanisoh is a trusted brand, but be sure to shop around.
Lansinohs nursing pads are a good buy overall - they are disposable, which is a major plus for me, as I don't have time to do laundry that often anymore (especially considering I have to do it at the Laundromat) I can just use them then toss them.
They are also "breathable" - for the most part.
They do what they are supposed to do; this of course is a plus. They absorb all of the milk I leak, even at night when I tend to leak to most. I never have any problems with milk leaking out, or my nipple being soaked. However, they can get gross. Overnight I don't change mine, and in the morning they are very full, the way they fill up makes to where they are no longer "breathable", and air is what nipples need when they are used for breastfeeding.
Lansinoh Disposable Nursing Pads come individually wrapped - which may be good for sterilization, but not all pads comes individually wrapped, I find it just makes for more mess and time. You have to unwrap them unfold the huge things, and throw the wrapper away. This is all precious time for a new mom who doesn't even have time to get a shower in every day.
They aren't too expensive at about $6.00 for a 36 count. Considering all the money you are saving by not buying formula, it is not bad at all.
Overall they are good nursing pad - I have tried a few brands and find they all have their good and bad. When you start nursing I say shop around, try all the different kinds and you will figure out which brand suits you best.
Lansinoh Breast Pads
The Perfect Latch On
The Crack Resistant Cream.
This is a MUST HAVE for any breastfeeding mother.
What to do when you already have sore cracked nipples? Start using Lansinoh breast cream right away. And use it often. It not only will get rid of it within a day, it will also sooth your nipples. But it is important to let your nipples air dry out before putting on the nipple cream if you don't it will only lock in the moisture, which is not what you want.
The very best part about Lansinoh breast Cream is that you don't have to wash it off at all before feeding your baby - it is completely safe for your baby! This is, I think one of the best things about it, because when baby wants fed, that means now - not after washing off your nipples. So safe in fact that it is endorsed by the La Leche League International. Also at the hospital after giving birth they gave me a little sample tube of it.
Now it may seem like a little tube, like it won't last, but believe me a little goes a long way. I use this stuff every single day multiple times, my son is over a month old and I am still using the first tube I ever bought. In fact, the little sample tube they gave me at the hospital lasted through the first week - and it was tiny. You just put a little bit on your finger and apply a thin coat of the stuff all over your nipple.
One problem is - it is greasy. After feeding your baby with this stuff on your babies face will be greasy as well. I just get a warm wash clothe and wipe my babys face off afterwards if it is bad. A baby with a shiny face just looks strange. Also after applying it make sure to wash your hands before putting on your bra - a grease spot on your bra isn't too great either. Lansinoh Nipple Cream has a brown tint, but you won't notice this much once it is put on your nipples. However, if it gets on your white bra you will.
Lansinoh breast Cream is about $10.00 for a 2oz. bottle, but again that will last a while, so it is very much worth it, as you will find out the first time your get cracked nipples. I see it as just another necessary product for the breastfeeding mother. Even after adding this to the list of products - you still aren't spending as much on feeding as a formula feeding mother does. One tube should last you at least a month, unless you are really using a TON of it.

We Be Boppin%u2019
Very much worth 25$ - has so many different uses.
I had heard about and seen the boppy pillow while pregnant with my son and thought - "that's just stupid%u2026..it's an overpriced pillow%u2026%u2026right?" But after having my baby boy and breastfeeding him for a week, I soon realized why the boppy was so popular. My back hurt so bad from bad posture while nursing him. So, I sent my husband out one night to grab me a naked boppy - I wanted to pick out the slipcover on my own, as I just don't trust his tastes. The first time I used it was pure bliss - my back didn't hurt at all, and my son was in the perfect nursing position. I found I was able to nurse him longer, and let him nurse all the way to sleeping. Before the boppy I would stop him as soon as he got a little lazy with the sucking.
Also after nursing him, I can prop him in the tummy position on it to burp him easily, and I find I can usually get the burp out a lot quicker. The boppy isn't only good for breastfeeding though, sometimes I let him just lounge in it propped up on his back. Other times on his belly - and he loves the boppy.
You can use the boppy in so many ways with your baby, and I can see him using it well into his toddler years. That is a definite plus considering most infant toys and such only are useful for about 6 months - and are a lot more expensive (bouncy seats anyone?). The bare Naked Boppy was only $25.00
He really does love tummy time in the boppy - he lifts his head up to look around when in a playful moon, or lays his head on the big boppy pillow when he is calm and just stares at me. And when he is ready to start learning to sit up on his own (not too far off, really), I know the boppy will once again be of great use.
Because I got the bare naked boppy I was able to pick out my slipcover - there are many designs to choose from I recommend going online to find the most selection. I promise you will find something that suits your style well. As for washing - the slipcover comes off easy for cleaning in any washer, then dry on low heat. It's that simple.
I find that daddy uses it as well when he takes his afternoon nap - it makes a great pillow for adults as well - so we may be using it even past his toddler years! That is if he lets us.
Now I understand why everyone was all about the Boppy. I guess it was voted Americas favorite baby product five years in a row! Some times the most simple product it the best. No attached toys, no loud noises, no batteries, just playtime fun. I really don't know what I would do without the boppy - I may not still be breastfeeding if I hadn't gotten it - I don't know if my back could have survived this long.
I recommend the boppy to all new moms and dads, not just moms who breastfeed because it is also perfect for bottle feeding, and has so many other uses. You will find it is well worth the 25 dollar price tag when your baby is still using it at even a year old. This will definitely be what I get any new moms at their baby showers - I know they will thank me for it over and over again.

- Relaxing was hard for me. I had my daughter 10 days after 911. To say the least, I was very stressed and emotional. I turned off the news. I started breathing and visualizing while listening to soothing jazz. I have since created a CD and Book: Relaxation for Breastfeeding and Skin-To-Skin infant care. Feel free to check them out at Amazon.com. I also have 2 lenses now: Stress Mastery for Everyone and Highly Effective Breastfeeding Mothers.

- YOu talk about storage and i want to know if you have tried the Mom's Bags for breast milk storage? These bags are called Mother's Milk Storage Bags and have the wire closure attached for attaching to the pumps and closing. I think these are the best bags.

- Hardest part- Milk disappearing when I get stressed. Thank God for fenugreek capsules!
Best part- The closeness I feel with my son every time I feed him. Oh, and when he looks up at me and smiles while feeding.
