Bruno's Alpha Dog Training

Here are some of Earl's comments after the first day of training on 6/8/11.
Training Goals of Owner: The client would like Bruno to stop pulling on the leash when walking, stop his disruptive behavior when inside the house and learn how to communicate with Bruno to have a better understand of their dog.

Problems Observed/Noted: Bruno is still a puppy, displaying puppy behaviors, taking control whenever he has an opportunity. He is strong at over 70 pounds and really pushes his weight around. Bruno has previous obedience training, but Nancy and Doc were never shown how to use this training to control their dog in a given situation. Bruno takes possession of objects and will not release on command, jumps onto people rather forcefully and barks for attention.

PROCEDURES
Instruction will be given in how dogs learn and what motivates a dog along with how they perceive their world. Instruction will also be on the Alpha-Dog Communication process and Leadership program. The owners will be shown proper Inside Doggie Management skills such as scheduling, feeding procedures and the Alpha-Dog Inside Sit for recall to a sit. The owners will also be instructed in basic obedience with the use of Alpha-Dog inside techniques and On-leash instruction. Leadership skills and methods of redirection will be taught along with use of hand signals, vocalization and body language for teaching basic obedience.

Initial Consultation/Session #1: 6/8/11 - I presented Nancy and Doc with information on the Alpha-Dog Training Philosophy, Thoughts for Dog Owners, Alpha-Dog Communication Process and Leadership, Ten Reasons for Dog Training Failure and Inside Doggie Management. We reviewed the feeding schedule, Nancy receiving instructions to pick up uneaten food after leaving it down for 15 minutes. I demonstrated how to correct/redirect Bruno when he jumps up onto the table or a person while they are sitting. Push him off using an "OFF" command, have him sit and reward the sit. I also demonstrated how to have Bruno release an object from his mouth by holding a treat in front of his nose while telling him to "Drop It". I instructed Nancy to remove herself from the room when Bruno is disruptive, wait one minute then return and have him sit for a treat, never encouraging Bruno's disruptive behavior. Nancy understood the process as we called Bruno back and forth between us, having him sit for a favored treat each time.

Instead of getting upset with Bruno when he tries to jump on someone or play bite, we just get him to do his "tricks" to get treats and it reminds him who is in charge.

Our grandson calls Bruno, "Little Bru" and I call him my "big boy" or "baby". lol
Bruno is really a "Daddy's Boy" and wants to be right beside Doc all the time.
