Why I think Sacha Baron Cohen is brilliant!
A modern court jester
Cohen shows us a look in the mirror. What we get to see isn't always that charming. He addresses many different problematic issues. For example about racism, female rights and gay rights.
He's a modern clown or better a court jester, who exposes ignorance, intolerance and narrow mindedness. His approach is depicted by embarrassing behavior, provocative statements and his interviewees contradicting themselves. And of course he's just really funny!

- He lets his subjects make outrageous statements
- He reveals an interviewee's apparent ignorance

The thing I like especially on Cohen's alter ego's is that while at first it seems he makes fun of the people he represents with his stereotypical attitude he actually criticizes his interviewees. He wants to show us how they really think. His humorous, silly approach functions as a way of catching them off guard. Thus showing us how easily people can be manipulated and how easily the are prepared to change their opinion.
