Arcade Games: Bubble Hockey

Bubble Hockey Tables were a very popular arcade game. Table hockey games have been around since the 1930s. They were also called rod hockey since they consist of a a bunch of rods that could turn. The rods would have hockey players on the end which could be pushed forward and pulled back. By turning the rod you could make the players hit or stop the puck. Most home versions were smaller and each player would use their fingers to move the hockey players. When it was introduced in arcades the dome or bubble was created to keep people form stealing the puck or even the players for that matter. There is actually an International Table Hockey Federation(ITHF) and they hold a championship every two years. Although this is for the smaller table top version.
