Today is bubble wrap appreciation day. But isn't every day a day for celebrating bubble wrap?

If you're like me, your first response when you see this squishy, plastic packing material is to say with delight, "Oh, I just love bubble wrap!" And then proceed to pop it with abandon in any way you can think of. While giggling and smiling like crazy.

Kids love it.

Adults love it.

Bubble Wrap: The Facts


  • Bubble wrap was created in 1960 and the last Monday of January was chosen as the day to celebrate that fact!


  • It was invented by Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes, two New Jersey scientists.


  • Bubble wrap was an accident (I'm so grateful!).


  • The two scientists were actually trying to create textured wallpaper (boring!).


  • There's enough bubble wrap made in a year to wrap around our planet ten times!
