Buck-Buck-Buck

Buck naked? I hope not. Bucks as in "Gosh, please let me have big bucks in my lifetime", and not meaning the male deer on that one. Meaning give me five bucks, ten bucks even a half buck which you know is actually a fifty cent piece.

If it was the male deer and you were out hunting then you would probably need your buck knife to make yourself a buckskin jacket after you let loose with your buck shot. Now that would involve a lot of work skinning the poor old buck who didn't want much else out of life than to run around eating grass and an occasional cedar tree or two.

Buck Buck Buck says our old hen on her way to the pen as our half blind dog Buck chases an old buck (which managed to hold onto his skin) out of the back yard. Which by the way is exactly what grandma calls grandpa whenever he is bugging her, "Stop it you old buck", she says and that is when you know Grandpa is feeling kind of frisky! Come to think of it Grandpa kind of looks like that other Buck guy, you know the one, that Buck Owens guy from Hee Haw. Kind of a funny guy that one.

Sure hope Grandpa never kicks the bucket, which by the way is what you haul water in, or can wash in when you accidentally slip in a fresh cow pie, and are officially buck out of luck for having mom let you get back into the house. Under those circumstances you know that you just have to buck it up, undo that old pant buckle, and get all cleaned up.

I've heard that you can buck wood or have buck teeth, which I think is some kind of a referral to having teeth like a bunny, but I am really not too sure on that one. You can pass the buck, which by the way, I don't think actually means that someone is going around handing out real bucks to folks? Nope.

Which reminds me that there is another expression out there about bucks, and when someone says it to you, gosh but you know exactly what is going on.

"That's it...the buck stops here."

Boy do you get the picture when you hear that phrase spoken in your direction......

"Here Buck here", if you are sitting at home watching the Bundys on T.V.'s Married with Children, in which case you should probably visit the "buck or two" for a little snack package, which is exactly where I am off to in about 2 and a half minutes. I might even take an extra minute to swing by our local Starbucks and pick me up a cup of coffee. I might add that Starbucks will definitely cost me a few more bucks then the Buck or Two. Good thing the coffee is good there and I made that few extra bucks at work this week.

Buck. buck. buck. The darn chicken is in the house. Now how the heck did she get in here?

After all the work of chasing the chicken out of the house, I'm tuckered out, and I think that I might just stay home after all. Starbucks and the Buck Or Two can wait, I'm going to get buck naked, and just spend the rest of the evening in bed. That is quite enough bucking around for one day.

Oops, let me just take a moment to check. Yep, gosh, golly, and I will be darned but I did forget to put something on this morning and, I am standing here at this very moment in time, buck naked.

Yep, I said it. I am buck naked, not butt naked, I am buck naked and I kind of like it. Now perhaps this expression came into effect in areas like the woods where I was raised, living in the wilds where the bucks run wild and free, doing naturally what bucks do naturally. It is indeed a mighty fine place to be.

I am very lucky because this magical atmosphere has remained with me even though I am now fully grown, meaning that in the city where I now live it is not uncommon to see the deer still running free, buck naked as can be. You can still spot the majestic bucks napping peacefully on downtown front lawns, or watch them sneaking nibbles, from cedar trees that homeowners have neglected to protectively wrap in burlap. Ha! Come to think of it, that would make these trees "Buck naked trees", completely naked to the deer who come sniffing out their delicate aroma. Unprotected as they may be from the deer that find them just so tasty of a treat.

Which reminds me that I really should get my tail dressed before I get caught in that same position. How embarrassing that would be, buck naked, for all the world to see. Gleep.

As I write this I see a mama deer grazing peacefully outside my window. Behind her follow a pair of twin fawns, spots still intact, and I have to smile cause I know the bucks have been doing what the bucks are supposed to be a doing. Running about buck naked a kicking up their heels in all their exuberant joy of living. I love it. It brings me back to an innocence that I sometimes think that the world has somehow forgot and that I wish was never lost.

One mama deer nuzzles another, and I wonder why we all can't get along like that, unafraid. Souls buck naked, and laid bare to those around them in complete and total trust, taking care of one another without a need to mistrust.

Of course there would have to be a few more people learn how to trust, and a few more people learn how to be trustworthy, for that to work.

Might not be a bad idea though if maybe a few more people in the world decided to get a little closer to nature. A little more buck naked. A little more open to the innocence that exists within each of us. Then maybe, just maybe, the world might be just a little nicer place to live in.

But for now I think that I'll go get dressed, there are some buck naked things in this world that others just do not want to see, and one of those things is me

The urban animals do not have the words they need to negotiate a treaty for their protection, nor do they have money to purchase back the lands which have been taken from them, so this leaves their right to fair treatment and safety within our hands.

A decision has been made to cull the urban deer in the communities of Kimberley, Cranbrook, and Invermere, British Columbia, Canada. As well other communities within this province are also looking into deer culls. The deer are trapped and then killed by a blow to the head. Those of us who sign this petition believe that this is a stressful and horrific manner in which these delicate creatures will be killed. We want the cull stopped and a more ethical means of dealing with urban deer found.
