OSHA Regulations For Bucket Truck Safety

Bucket trucks fall under OSHA regulation guidelines, which must be followed for safety. The following are some important rules on how to use a bucket truck correctly and safely:
- The bucket truck can be made of fiberglass, plastic, metal, or wood. The truck should be used only to elevate employees to any job site located at heights.
- Controls must be clear and and easy to see as well as marked by function.
- Bucket trucks can be modified or customized for uses other than the designed use but only if the manufacturer gives their approval to the modification in writing.
- Load and distribution need to always be checked to make sure they are within the manufacturer's recommendations.

Brakes have to be set.

Bucket trucks should not be in gear if employees are there in the basket.

Controls should be tested regularly every day and prior to using the bucket truck.
- The lower controls must not be used without the permission of the employee in the bucket expect in the case of an absolute emergency.
- Anyone operating the bucket truck should wear the appropriate protective gear which includes safety boots, safety goggles, gloves, a hardhat, etc. to protect from falling objects.

For business owners, the biggest part of safety is continual training. If someone operates the bucket truck following OSHA guidelines, the truck can provide long lasting service with a low amount maintenance and maintenance costs.
