Why You Need This Budgeting 101?

Think you know where all your money goes and that you don't need to write it down to keep track? I challenge you. Keep track of every penny you spend for one month - yes, every penny. You'll quickly see the need for personal budgeting.

You may be shocked at what all the tiny expenses add up to. Take the total you spent on just one unnecessary item for the month, multiply it by 12 for months in a year and multiply the result by 5 to represent 5 years. That is how much you could have saved and drawn interest on in just five years.

That, my friend, is the very reason all of us need to remember personal budgeting. If we can get control of the small expenses that really don't matter to the quality of our lives, we can enjoy better personal finance and have less worries in our lives.

Wants and Needs

Budgeting by Avoiding the Unnecesssary

You buy items because you either need them or want them. A need is something you cannot take away from a person for these things are vital to his or her very existence and without them, they are categorically considered poor or deprived. Needs must be fulfilled.

Wants, on the other hand, you can do without. They are the little luxuries that you pay for on impulse, or because you seek pleasure. For better budgeting you should avoid them.

Food, shelter, clothing and health are the primary examples of needs. In a modern world, car and phone gadgets are almost a necessary part of a busy working individual. However, unless you are receiving more than $10,000 per month, you do not need to have a luxury vehicle. Stick to the vitals and forget your wants.

The same is true for your cell phone. Having your own mobile phone is necessary these days, but keeping up with the latest model or buying the all the latest releases is not practical, and will be harmful for your budgeting efforts.

Budgeting Tools

How to Make Budgeting Easy

Budgeting your monthly expenses in order to get the greatest return on your income doesn't have to be that hard. Various types of budgeting tools exist that you can take advantage of.

Money management software provides you with a usual package that allows you to enter your cash inflows and outflows, categorizes your expenditures, and at times, presents to you analysis of your spending behavior. Through this kind of budgeting software you can also input the various payments you have to make monthly, and subsequently track if you've paid your dues on time. They in effect take care of your budgeting for you.

Another personal budgeting tool that you can utilize are coupons. Various stores and magazines have coupons that you can use to get discounts on various products. Should there be a need to purchase a particular product for which you have a coupon for, you will end up saving a some of what you would have had to spend for regular price.

Filing systems are maybe one of the best personal finance budgeting tools you can have in your home. With simple, labeled file folders you can put together your bills, receipts and bank documents. By putting them all together, you are able to keep track of how much you owe and when the payments are due.
