Many people are not aware that Clydesdales are considered to be an endangered breed. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy classifies Clydesdales as a "Watch" breed, which means that there are fewer than 2,500 annual registrations in the United States and an estimated global population of less than 10,000. To compare, there are over 100,000 Quarter Horses registered every year, and more than 3.7 million registered total. Here are some organizations working to preserve the Clydesdale breed:
- American Livestock Breeds Conservancy
- United States rare breeds organization
- Rare Breeds Survival Trust
- British rare breeds organization
- Equus Survival Trust
- The Trust is a rare breed organization that specializes in the collective conservation of rare breed horses, ponies and donkeys in the North America as relates to domestic and global populations.

- Thank you for offering this wonderful site. I met one of the big boys in Tampa at Busch Gardens. SO SWEET! He liked my fingernails behing his ear. Keep up the Clydesdale tradition PLEASE! They are an American Icon.
