"Our view of the culinary potential of invertebrates broadened as we ate raw scorpion in China, roasted grubs in Australia, stir-fried dragonflies in Indonesia, tarantulas on a stick in Cambodia, and live termites in Botswana," they write. "Perhaps the most memorable meal was Theraposa leblondi, a tarantula big enough to hunt birds, which we ate with Yanomami Indians in the Venezuelan rain forest."

Mealworms - you can make mealworm flour and add it to almost anything.

More Insect Recipes - More than you ever wanted to know about eating bugs!

To make insect flour:

Spread your cleaned insects out on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Set your oven 200 degrees and dry insects for approximately 1-3 hours. When the insects are done, they should be fairly brittle and crush easily. Take your dried insects and put them into a blender or coffee grinder, and grind them till they are about consistency of wheat germ. Use in practically any recipe!
Eat Bugs - Recipes
While there are many people in other countries who prefer to eat insects live and raw, and while it is true that you could probably get the most nutrients that way, I prefer food that won't crawl off my plate. I have tried eating live ants and mealworms, and in fact present a "recipe" for live insect consumption below; however, I would advise that beginning insect eaters start with cooked insects.

Cricket - You might want to remove the legs before eating as they tend to get stuck in your teeth.

You'll learn how to catch crickets the proper way.

The production of bred insect stock is highly sustainable due to the ecological viability of the retained bushland. Through careful protection and maintenance of the rainforest ecosystem, it becomes possible to replenish and continually diversify captive invertebrate stocks, based entirely upon the natural communities occurring on the property.

Edible Caterpillars

Edible Morpani Worms
Mopane's are a staple part of the diet in Southern Africa, they are harvested twice a year and sold in the local markets.

The mopane worm is the brightly coloured caterpillar of the Emperor Moth, which is one of the world's largest moths, and the caterpillar lives on the leaves of the mopane tree - hence, it gets its name.

The worms are hand picked or shaken off the trees. The local collector's squeeze the Caterpillars to remove their bright green 'guts' and then they are cooked in a cauldron of salty water until the water has evaporated, they are then dried in the Hot African Sun. Once dried, they can be stored for many months. Their protein content is three times that of beef, weight for weight, and they are traditionally cooked in a stew containing tomatoes and onions.

Eat Bugs. Save the Planet

Everyone Eat Insects
There is a rational, even persuasive, argument for voluntarily eating insects: Bugs are high in protein, require less space to grow and offer a more environmentally friendly alternative to the vertebrates we Westerners prefer, advocates of the bug fare say.
