Disaster Preparedness
Sitting out a disaster at home
Sometimes disaster strikes and you are unable to get out. Suppose you live on a hill, but a flood washes out the roads to town. Or maybe a blizzard knocks out power and keeps you snowed in for days. If you've stocked your bug-out bag, you'll have no worries about having the food or emergency supplies you need. Emergency personnel can reach you to help usually within 72 hours, which is exactly the length of time you've prepared your bug-out bag for.If you have emergency rations, you won't be hungry while you wait for the road to town to be passable. And don't forget water. Especially during floods, the water supply can become unsafe to drink. Jugs you've filled ahead of time at home can grow algae and get nasty. Sealed pouches of emergency water stay safe and fresh. It can be hard to determine how much water you will need, so it's good to also have a portable water filter and chemical treatment.
