In short, a WordPress Multisite is a single WP installation that enables you to create an unlimited number of "add on" blogs in the form of subdomains. For example, if your main site is wpmultisite.com then you could have:

travel.wpmultisite.com
health.wpmultisite.com
wealth.wpmultisite.com

Each of these subdomains is counted as a separate blog by the search engines but they all share a single central admin area. Here is the best part - you can create multiple blogs in just seconds without going through the install process for each.
