Newsflash Tutorial Joomla 1.6 1.7 - Build Your Own Website Software, Hosting

To build your won website without knowing HTML or programming, the best web hosting I have used is Lunar Pages Web Hosting . They offer a free, easy to install version of Joomla CMS Content Management System to create my own website. To get started building your own business or personal website, you need:

- Lunar Pages Web Hosting - The best web host, you only need the BASIC plan. Nothing fancy!

- Joomla Content Management System - No need to download and install this software! Joomla is free with Lunarpages Basic Hosting Plan and is a one click install.

One feature many people want on a site is a news flash, or a short blurb of news to show up on the top or sides of a website template. This tutorial is ion how to Create and Edit a Joomla Newsflash Module.

Create and Edit a Joomla News Custom HTML Module

In Joomla, the items that show up on the sides of a page, footer or top are called 'Modules'. If you wish to create an easy to update blurb of your latest site news, events, sale or any important bit of information you wish to pass on to a viewer, you would create a 'Newsflash' To do this:

Log on to your Jo0omla back end. Go to Extensions > Module Manager

Create a New Module

To add news to your website, select the yellow New button in the upper right.

A pop up window will be displayed from which you will select what type of module you want to create. There is a 'Newsflash' module, however I have always found "Custom HTML' easier to work with.

A new window will open, where you will format the news flash.

1. Title - Give your news module a name

2. Show Title - Do you want the title to show up on the website? In this case, I did want it on my pages.

3. Position - Position will depend on which template you use for your site, so you'll have to play with it a bit, I wanted mine to display at the top directly under my header, but this position applies to my template and may not work on your template,

4. Custom Output - This is your text edit box and where you will type what you want your news to say.

Below the text editor box is the option to select which pages you want the news module to show on, or be displayed. In my case I wanted the news visible on all pages of my website.

Save Your Joomla Custom News Module

To save your newsflash, hit the Save & Close button in the upper right.

It will take you to your main modules menu, where your new news module should be listed. Make sure that it is listed published in green!

The newsflash module should now be visible on your website.
