How To Create A Email List By Building An Article Directory

The first thing that you need to do is to download your free copy of Article Dashboard. Simply fill out the form and the download link will be sent to you.

You will need to have a hosting account that has Ioncube enabled on the server. I would recommend Hostgator.com. Hostgator provides an excellent 24 hour service. Their hosting accounts start at $6.95 a month for 50 gigs of disc space, I use the next package up from this which is only $9.95 a month and has 100 gigs of disc space, this package gives me plenty of room to grow. My article directory currently has over 50,000 articles, so it is advisable to make sure that you have plenty of space to grow.Hostgator.com provides excellent value for money. Right, thats enough of the advertising, back to the business of getting you set up!

Your article Dashboard script will come as a zip file. You will need to unpack. The quickest way to upload it to yur server is to open your unzipped file, click select all, then right click and click on 'add to zip'. Once you have zipped the file up upload to you server,click on the zip file from within your cpanel, and click on "Extract File Contents" in the right hand window of your cpanel. The whole website will then be unpacked directly into your directory. Refresh your browser to see the completed upload!

You will then need to make some changes to the permissions and set up a Mysql database. This I will explain in the next section.

There a few things that you will need to do before you can get your article directory up and running. Firstly you need to change the permissions on the following directories and files to 777

1) Admintemplates (Directory and files)

2) Emailtemplaes (Directory and files)

3) Templates (Directory and files)

4) Photoimages (Directory and files)

5) Setup.php


You will then need to create a MySQL database. Go to you cpanel, click on the MySQl icon on the home page. Fill in the form that says "New Database" giving your database a name of your choice. Click on the "Create Database" button. Now add a username and password and click "Create User" button. Now click on 'add user to database'. You have now set up a database!

Make sure that you make a note of the database name, username and password as you will need these later. Your database name and username consist of 2 parts and will have the username of your server as the first part of it, like this:

domain_admin
domain_user

You now need to enter the following url into your browser

http://www.yourdomain.com/admin/install.php

(you will need to replace "yourdomain.com" with the name of your domain!). Fill in the correct details in the boxes provided. Leave the table prefix box blank and click 'Ok'.

You article directory is now set up! To log in to you admin area go to http://www.yourdomain.com/admin
The default username and password is

admin
admin

You should change these straight away. You can customise most things from the admin area.

Having set your article directory up you will need some articles! This is quite simple. First download the following script and upload it to the main directory of your article diectory. Articlmarketer Script. Make sure that you unzip the script first and check the "over write" box when you upload it. This script is a modification that will allow you to receive articles from Article Marketer.

The next thing to do is to submit your directory to Article Marketer. You can do that here:

You should find that your directory will be added to their list for submission within 48 hours. If you click the box to receive all of the articles in their database, you will have well over 2,000 articles sent to you over the next 48 hours. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO GO THROUGH 2000 ARTICLES, ONLY
TICK THE BOX TO RECEIVE EVERYTHING IF YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE THE TIME!

Not only will you receive all of these articles, you will also receive all of the authors contact details, including their email addresses!

Please be sensible about how often you email your members. I would suggest only once a week, or twice at the most. Also make sure that the terms and conditions of your article site clearly state that by becoming a member, they are agreeing to receive an occasional email.

It is probably better to build up a relationship with your authors before you start to sell to them. Start a newsletter with writing tips, or give away a ebook or two. And make sure that you spend time reviewing their articles for inclusion. try to alternate free giveaway products with paid for ones. this will help to keep them interested in your emails.

The Article Dashboard script is brilliant and easy to use. But you can increase its effectiveness with these Article Dashboard Addons They are well worth the extra moeny as they increase the directory's effectiveness and more importantly save you time!

Although Article Marketer is a really good way of getting articles to your website you will want to build your membership further a field. You can do this by uploading the following free automatic article submission script Article Submit. Make sure that you added your directory to this submission script. The script is updated daily with new article directories via RSS. It comes with full instalation instructions.

Use this script to submit articles so as to increse your page rank and help other authors to find your website. If writing articles are not your thing try a service like Infogoround.Com Infogoround are really good. And you get a free months membership if you submit an article that they accept.

On of the great things about the Article Dashboard script is that it comes with RSS feeds. This is a great way to build traffic to your site and to improve you page ranking. You could of course do this manually, but I would recommend using a program such as RSS Anouncer this will automate your sumissions. Many people use RSS feeds to build their Adsense sites, so soon you will find you are getting free backlinks from all over the web!

If you apply all of these tips, you will soon have a growing article directory and mail list. You may be able to make money from adsense too, although most of the money I have made has been in the list. As the saying goes..."the money is ion the list!"

Article dashboard is a fantastic article directory script. I know of no other free script that has so many features. The only real problem with it is that it hasn't been updated in years. There are a number of low priced add on scripts that you can buy but this may not be the most cost effective way of doing it.
