How to construct a low cost sturdy cabin.
Building a log cabin has been a dream for a longtime.; I live on a mini homestead which I rent, so once I buy some land up north then I will use this lens.; The first goal is to build a 20x20 small cabin.; As with everything on the homestead I want to be able to add to it easily.; Most likely another 20x20.; This ability to Square or add to will be the same with the garden, solar, wind and hydro power systems.
Our goal is to recycle any and all material possible.; I have a whole new outlook when I walk through the woods, every tree can provide something valuable.; My eyes are opening to all the possibilities; As the economy gets worse and as more people lose their jobs, more of us will revert back to a more basic life. I am looking at some recycled lumber and even considering look at 100% recycled composite. 100% of the income earned by this lens goes to help fund the Food for Everyone Foundations marketing and mission efforts. - Hi, just ran across your lens here on building a cabin. We are in the process of building a log home (but I guess it is a cabin by some people's standards) as it is under 3,000 square feet. My husband and I have worked on it together for the most part - 10% friends chipping in when they can. It can be challenging and exhausting but when it is done it will be beautiful. We were documenting the whole thing at http://www.loghomestoday.com - but haven't done much updating lately - you know, life gets in the way - but your page here has inspired me to pick up the hammer and start posting again, so thanks for that! :) Cheers, Laura

- We live in a log cabin. For years, we had considered building our own, but in the end we purchased an existing cabin. We now live in the mountains of North Georgia, escaping the ratrace of urban life and careers. Would I move back? I certainly hope not!
