- I'm a pastor, and we teach FPU at our church as a community outreach. I saved my Emergency Fund in 2 months of starting FPU...had to use it 2 months later. Sooooo relieved I had taken Baby Step 1!!! So my Fund is nearly rebuilt. In the meantime, I've paid down $4000 on student loans, my own outstanding debt. Great program!

- I have been preaching for years about having an emergency fund. Great examples and testimonials on how emergency funds truly helped many in dire situations. Not only is a financial emergency fund good to have, but with natural disasters happening at an alarming rate, my wife and I have started an emergency kit with can foods, clothing, medical supplies, water, radio, etc., for quick mobile escape if necessary. You can never be overly prepared nowadays.

- Excellent advice and congratulations on your success at "digging out". An emergency fund would have been very helpful to me many times in life. I've been my son's emergency fund this past year, funny how that works out.

- Excellent lens. This is information that public schools and colleges should be teaching to ALL STUDENTS as MANDATORY information (they can take the other courses for their majors later). The reason why many folks in our current economy are in such messes is that they never had many chances to learn about personal finance and how money (and the economy) works. I'm lensrolling this to my home economics - personal finance lens. Thank you for posting such valuable information! 5*
