- Bob the BIM Builder
- Builders and design-build contractors are validating the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for construction using an additional set of values. They are not necessarily designing the building like an architect or an engineer. They need BIM to help them manage their internal business and construction processes; like estimating, project management, material handling, labor forecasting and management, and coordinating clash detection of the various building trades.

- e-SPECS for Revit - Integrated Specifications with Revit
- Integrated Specifications
e-SPECS for Revit interfaces with Revit's parametric database, instantly updating your project specifications to the requirements of the building model. Insert a wall, door, window, or any other building object into your Revit model and instantly update your project manual with the appropriate specifications. Any changes you make to the designs will automatically be incorporated into the specification manual. And with the click of the mouse, you can access all the other functionality that e-SPECS provides to update your sections on-the-fly, post project notes, review section markups and more. - Visual Estimating: Extending BIM to Construction
- With BIM, the quantity take-off can be greatly speeded up, since the model has the information about all the objects in the building as well as their dimensions. However, it is important to note that it will, by itself, not enable automatic take-off. This is because the estimating process is a lot more complicated than simply getting a list of objects and their sizes. It also involves analyzing the building design, grouping objects into appropriate assemblies for construction, setting assembly and item variables, and then pricing the objects by taking off these assemblies or items.
Construction Material Calculators
- Building Materials Area/Volume Calculators
- We have the following online building materials quantity, volume, area and cost calculators for your use. Please bear in mind that these are for guidance only and we cannot therefore accept any liability for the quantities given.

- LIMEWORKS US - Mortar Calculator
- This calculator is only intended for rough estimation of Lime Works.US products. Many factors may significantly alter its accuracy. By using the calculator you agree to absorb the risk in any miscalculation whether by fault of the system or inefficiencies of waste and any other discrepancy.
- Mortar Quantity Calculator
- This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This calculator is designed to give an approximate quantity of bags of mortar required for the possible options for a 3/8" mortar joint, based on your data entry. Enter the number of 8" x 2" x 4" bricks or 8" x 8" x 16" blocks needed for this job. All values are numeric. Click on Calculate and read the possible values. This quantity is approximate; even so, it is very accurate but cannot account for unknowns creating data error.
