Build Muscle to Burn Fat - Fast, Effective, Permanent

Looking to build muscle to burn fat? You should be! It's not only the fastest way to burn fat, it's the most effective, most permanent, and healthiest way to get and keep your body in tip-top shape.

Obviously if you're working to get your body looking its best, you may as well be doing it the best way you can.

Does Running Actually Burn Fat?

The most common prescription for burning fat is moderate aerobic activity (usually running) for long periods of time, which is actually a lot less effective than most people know.

When you run, there are a few things going on inside your body that keep it from burning fat and keeping it off. One thing to keep in mind: our bodies are amazing at adapting. After just a little while of running, your body gets used to the stress and it begins to get easier. This means you burn less calories over time, and your body adapts to the demand for energy by storing more fat for the next workout. Wait a second, that doesn't sound like an exercise I'd want to be doing if I wanted to burn fat. That's right, it's not!

The Risks of Running (Step Away From the Treadmill!)

Running can actually lead to muscle loss if you aren't eating properly because you won't have enough energy to burn. Also, if your blood glucose isn't high enough either, your body manufactures it by breaking down some protein (ie. your muscles!). Our metabolic rate (how fast we burn calories) is tied to how much muscle we have, so if you're losing muscle, you're also burning fewer calories.

There are other risks associated with running as well, like injuries from overuse and muscle imbalances. Exercises like running use the same muscle over and over and over again, which not only causes repetitive strain, but also build those muscles stronger and neglects the rest. You'll have to add more workouts to balance your muscles, which will now be harder to fit in your schedule since you have to keep devoting more time to running as your body gets used to it in order to keep burning those calories.

Your Muscles Burn Fat...So You Don't Have To

So what's the solution here? How can we build muscle to burn fat, and not be stuck in the gym every day of the week?

Why Building Muscle to Burn Fat is the Way to Go

I mentioned before how our metabolic rate (how fast we burn calories) was tied to how much muscle we have, so wouldn't it make sense to have more muscle if we wanted to burn more calories? Put simply: yup.

With resistance training you build your muscles, which raises your metabolic rate. That means that your body burns an increased amount of calories at rest, without you even doing anything extra.

So it only makes sense to increase the amount of muscle you have, because simply carrying more muscle around all day will use up more of your calories and burn more of your fat.

Not only will you look better with a fit, toned body, but it will take less time to exercise and you'll actually be burning more fat everyday without doing anything extra.

How to Build Muscle to Burn Fat

Intense resistance training can save you a lot of time on your workouts as well. If you run or do any other aerobic exercises like stair climbing to try to burn fat, the recommendation is the usual 30-45 minute session 3-4-5 times per week. As with all those workouts, they tell you the more days you can exercise, the better.

When you train with resistance to actually burn your fat and gain muscle, you only need to spend 15-20 minutes, 2-3 days a week to get the results you want. That saves you a lot of time, so you can spend it doing the things you love with the people you love, instead of being stuck in a gym everyday of the week.

Building muscle that burns fat not only gives you more results, but also more time to enjoy them.
