Mexico On Path To Becoming Bigger Security Threat Than Iraq
MEXICO CITY - Indiscriminate kidnappings. Nearly daily beheadings. Gangs that mock and kill government agents.
This isn't Iraq or Pakistan. It's Mexico, which the U.S. government and a growing number of experts say is becoming one of the world's biggest security risks.
The prospect that America's southern neighbor could melt into lawlessness provides an unexpected challenge to Barack Obama's new government. In its latest report anticipating possible global security risks, the U.S. Joint Forces Command lumps Mexico and Pakistan together as being at risk of a "rapid and sudden collapse."
"The Mexican possibility may seem less likely, but the government, its politicians, police and judicial infrastructure are all under sustained assault and pressure by criminal gangs and drug cartels," the command said in the report published Nov. 25.
"How that internal conflict turns out over the next several years will have a major impact on the stability of the Mexican state."
Retiring CIA chief Michael Hayden told reporters on Friday that that Mexico could rank alongside Iran as a challenge for Obama _ perhaps a greater problem than Iraq.
The U.S. Justice Department said last month that Mexican gangs are the "biggest organized crime threat to the United States." National security adviser Stephen Hadley said last week that the worsening violence threatens Mexico's very democracy.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff recently told The New York Times he ordered additional border security plans to be drawn up this summer as kidnappings and killings spilled into the U.S.

If you consider the cost in terms of money and the threat that it may actually impose on us as citizens, the impossible has happened with me personally on this issue. I no longer support building a fence. But please continue to read this lens, for there are many truths contained...
The only way to stop illegal immigration is to:
1) Enforce hiring laws on the books now,
2) Stop legislation planned to make it easier for businesses to hire illegals,
3) Enforce current laws that govern who can become a legal resident,
4) Stop subsidizing farmers and begin to spend money at market-value for produce, and,
5) Ship out as many illegals currently here.
A "wall" of razors won't stop big business from shipping in cheap labor on the NAFTA Superhighway.

Congress Eliminates Border Enforcement Funding!
We have one chance left to secure much needed enforcement funding but we must ACT NOW!The American people made it clear they didn't want amnesty, they wanted enforcement. But Congress didn't listen.
After the failed amnesty attempt earlier this year, Congress promised to focus on enforcing our borders and existing laws. Yet, last week, Congress stripped a $3 billion enforcement provision from the Department of Defense Authorization bill and rushed its passage, leaving the American public no opportunity to weigh in.

The first "North American Union" driver's license, complete with a hologram of the continent on the reverse, has been created in North Carolina."The North Carolina driver's license is 'North American Union' ready," charges William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration.
Gheen provided WND with a photo of an actual North Carolina license which clearly shows the hologram of the North American continent embedded on the reverse.
"The hologram looks exactly [like] the map of North America that is used as the background for the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America logo on the SPP website," Gheen told WND. "I object to the loss of sovereignty that is proceeding under the agreements being made by these unelected government bureaucrats who think we should be North American instead of the United States of America.

"To protest, I don't plan on applying for a North Carolina driver's license," Gheen told WND, "even though I am a resident of the state. "My decision not to get a North Carolina driver's license could have very difficult consequences for me," Gheen told WND. "Without a valid driver's license, I may not be able to drive a car, fly on an airplane, or enter a government building."

Sessions: Senate Vote on Immigration a Victory for the American People
WASHINGTON-U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today after the U.S. Senate voted 46 - 53 not to invoke cloture on the immigration bill:"Today's crushing defeat of the flawed immigration bill is a victory for the American people.
"The Congressional Budget Office found that this legislation would have allowed 8.7 million more illegal aliens in the United States over the next twenty years. We would be squandering a historic opportunity to reform our immigration system if we accepted policies that reduced illegality by only 13 percent. We can and must do better.
"As the public learned more about this immigration legislation, it became clear that the bill did not meet their expectations. The American people overwhelmingly rejected it. Senators heard the voices of their constituents and voted accordingly.
"The vote was also a rejection of the heavy handed procedure employed by the supporters of the legislation. It was not a fair process. I have not seen a more carefully scripted attempt to limit amendments and stifle debate in order to move a piece of legislation through the Senate as was witnessed in this case. Senators saw it for what it was and objected.
"Our nation's immigration system is broken. I believe that any process to fix that system must start with a real commitment to securing our borders and enforcing our laws. I am pleased to work with President Bush as we move forward with a renewed focus on making our borders secure. It would be an enduring legacy for him if he were to be the first President in nearly 40 years to truly secure our nation's borders."

- Tons of good information - Time to update this lens? I'm new to Squidoo so not much an authority but since Mexico is getting ready to implode, I expect the numbers of illegals crossing out border will explode. Build the fence for our National Security and now, for our very survival.

- Great topic and info. It is insane to have open borders. Down here by the border we've been complaining for years about it. I used to live near a mosque where one of the 911 terrorists attended services. Any terrorist can pretend to be an immigrant, hop over the border and cause a lot of destruction. Having open borders is like leaving the doors open to your own home-it's crazy.

- Breaking the law is not acceptable behavior and illegally entering this country should be no exception. Yes build the fence but lots not forget unless you are an American Indian we are at least all descendants of immigrants. We do therefore also need a fair system for good people to be able to enter this country legally an apply for citizenship.

- What don't people understand about "illegal?" Look at the charts of financial and infrastructure strains on the economy- and the projection for future taxation! Look at qualified professionals in other countries waiting 7 years for legal immigration and still on hold. Look at the profile of crimes and criminals in Southern California. Look at ANY of the facts, and how can you dispute a proper national BORDER and controlled immigration? Find someone hurting? Treat them and send them home. Don't cut social security to life-long working Americans to start supporting illegals and educate their children. Robbing hard-working Americans is NOT the solution for world poverty! I give more of myself and my income to help others than most Americans, but FACTS are FACTS, and REALITY is REALITY. This is the USA. If you want to live here, come in legally, work, learn the language, respect the flag and laws. If I move to France, I'll learn French!

- I agree that we need to build the fence, and I find it amazing that those of us who want to secure our boarders are concidered RACIST! The truth is that exploiting the misfortunes of these folks is the greatest example of racism I can think of.
