All About Bulbous Rhinoplasty

We will discuss the advantages and disadvantage of rhinoplasty and other nose job options.

What is Bulbous Rhinoplasty

The technical name for a red nose, bulbous nose or alcoholic's nose is "rhinophyma". Before, the condition was regarded as a result of excessive drinking. These days, studies have proven that this isn't true. This is since a lot of non drinkers and heavy drinkers are only equally affected by the disorder.

People in the past were very embarrassed because people with this condition were presumed to be heavy drinkers. These days, people can resort to bulbous rhinoplasty to relieve this condition.

Although the cause for "rhinophyma" or a bulbous nose is not really known, there are several beliefs to this thought. There are those that believe it is caused by a demodex or a small mite living in the hair follicles. There are also those who mention the H. pylori bacterium, especially those with gastric ulcers. Other regarded reasons include a disorder in the blood vessels and a very harsh form of rosacea. Although there is still no cure yet for this condition, it can still be improved through acne medications and antibiotic therapy.

Another option is via plastic surgery. By removing tissues and suturing, the nose tip can be sculptured and shaped. To do this, plastic surgeons use scalpels, lasers and dermabrasion. However, there is a tendency for the condition to return. Bulbous rhinoplasty is another form of cosmetic rhinoplasty.

Symptoms of this condition include a large, bulb shaped nose along with ted thickened skin. Since there are lots of oil glands in this area, the skin can feature a waxy, yellowish appearance. At the tip of the nose, there may also be lumpy growths. Lucky for the women, they are less likely to get affected by this condition. When it comes to typical rosacea, there are people with flares - making the condition worse. The cold, wind, stress, tension, drinking and indoor heat can increase the symptoms.

If you have already used antibiotics and other types of medications but the desired effect is still not there, a plastic surgeon is the best doctor to consult with as she can correct the appearance on the nose.

When undergoing surgery, general anesthesia is used and is treated as an outpatient procedure. Through an incision in-between the nostrils (also known as open rhinoplasty), plastic surgeons can work on inner structures. Also consider rhinoplasty costs.

Surgeons can still remove excess tissue and then sculpt the nose into a more appealing shape. This makes lasers ideal fro this kind of procedure. This is since there is less scarring and bleeding when a laser is used. The recovery time is the same as traditional rhinoplasty. For the final results, this becomes apparent in two weeks; however, it may take year for your nose to stabilize to its final shape.
