Bulimba, Queensland - riverside suburb on the move

Bulimba: tranformed from a quiet village to one of Brisbane's most popular suburbs
Bulimba is my home suburb in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I moved here in 1983 and have been in the same 1929 Queenslander home since then. Bulimba is surrounded by water on two sides and is positioned on a right-hand bend of the Brisbane River. Mangroves grow near the Bulimba Yatching Club positioned on the point opposite Breakfast Creek and Hamilton. Bulimba is noted for its theatres, cafes and restaurants, shopping, Memorial Park, sporting facilities, Riverside walk and multimillion dollar waterfront homes. It is located 20 minutes by CityCat ferry from Brisbane City and ten minutes by car (off-peak). Many people walk or bike ride from Bulimba to the City.
Bulimba: a sleepy village transformed
Bulimba used to be described as the "forgotten suburb". Now people travel from all over Brisbane by bike, car and ferry to enjoy its (15) restaurants and cafes, its sporting facilities and parkland.
The Bulimba Hotel has been transformed from a rough jaunt controlled by tough Painters and Dockers (wharfies) to a trendy hang-out for the young set with its multiple flat TV screens, live music, up-market restuarant and award-winning boutique beer brewery.
The Riverbend Books and Teahouse consistently wins the Queensland Independent Booksellers Award and has won the Australian award as well. This is my "other office" where I handle assignment/thesis marking, planning and development tasks and client meetings.
Within two kilometers of Bulimba you can sail or row or play golf, tennis, soccer, hockey (State Centre), Australian Rules, Rugby League, lawn bowls or cricket.
Bulimba is on the CityCat ferry route which starts at Bretts Wharf further downstream around the bend of the river and ends at the University of Queensland.
I frequently travel by CityCat to work or shop in Brisbane City. I even plan my Squidoo lenses during the 20 minute ferry ride.

- I travel to Brisbane a lot and have never been to your lovely suburb. Next time I'm there I will make the effort to take a look. It looks absolutely beautiful. Great lens.
