New Dog Breed

The Bull Boxer originated in Great Britain during the 1990s, by crossing the Staffordshire Bull Terrier with the Boxer.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a medium sized breed with a short coat, that was bred originally for the purposes of killing rodents.  Great respectability was gained by this breed during the early 20th century, which resulted in them being entered into the United Kingdom Kennel Club.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is stocky and muscular with the most magnificent strength and athletic abilities.  Their typical height is 35 to 40 cm at the withers, and their preferred weight is 24 to 34 pounds.  They are a fearless and curious breed.  This breed is extremely protective of its family and small children.

The Boxer was developed in Germany, and is also medium sized with a short, smooth textured coat.  The Boxer has an extremely strong jaw, and a powerful bite, which is ideal for hanging on to large prey.

The Bull Boxer is recognized as being a better-quality breed to either of its parents.  Bull Boxers, or puppies that are labeled as being Bull Boxers, are not very often 50% mixes.  There are many combinations of the bull breeds and Boxers that are labeled as Bull Boxers.  For instance, another variation of the Bull Boxer is the American Bulldog and Boxer.

Since the Bull Boxer is a hybrid breed, there are no standards set for this specific breed.  The only general requirement is that the breed has a large, square head will well defined jaw muscles.  This breeds coat should be short and firm.  This hybrids coat color can be brindle or fawn, with white mixes and black.  It is also possible for this breed to have a white coat that is reverse brindle in color.  However, this color is uncommon and very often frowned upon.

The Bull Boxer has not been recognized as a true breed by the American kennel Club, but may consider the prolonged existence of the mix as qualification enough to be classified as an independent breed, even though the breed's classification still remains more common than accepted.

Some Bull Boxer breeders have stated that the crossing may reduce the inherent tendency to skin cancer from the Boxer side along with the Staffordshire's tendency to heart disease.  Nevertheless, this claim will be largely disputed by many breeders.

The Bull Boxer is an easy breed to train.  Whilst Boxers maintain their puppy attitude and very rarely grow out of their puppy behavior until they have past three years of age, Bull Boxer puppies are said to mature more quickly.  And even though the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is unreliable with small children, it has been stated that the bull Boxer is less likely to chase.  The Bull Boxer has also inherited the Staffordshire Bull Terrier's sociable nature.

It is important that the coat of the Bull Boxer is combed regularly in order to remove any dead hairs.  This breed should only be bathed when absolutely necessary, as this can remove the natural oils from their skin.  It is imperative that Bull Boxers have their ears checked and cleaned on a regular basis.
