Bulletin Boards for Interactive Learning
Bulletin Boards can be more than just decoration on the wall. By making it interactive, a bulletin board can become another center in your classroom. You will find bulletin boards to teach math at calendar time and word walls for learning to read and spell.
Bulletin Boards that invite interaction make available another learning space within the classroom.
Interactive Bulletin Boards Idea Books
Make this into an interactive bulletin board use real clothesline and clothespins and your children will be able to take down, rearrange and reorganize the letters into words or put words in ABC order.Crafty Hand Print Quilts
Bulletin Boards for Daily Interactive Learning

Pictures are put up in an ABAB pattern and could be used to Count by Twos.
Each bulletin board uses hand prints that could be used to Count by Fives.
The Winter Bulletin Boards start to have stories that the children have written and inviting everyone to read eachother's writing.
The artistry of turning the individual pictures into a quilt evokes the way the class works together to create a united society.
- Crafty Quilts
- Each month Ms. Kimberly's Kindergarteners have fun using hand prints to create "crafty quilts." At the end of the month, these special quilt pieces are placed in the children's kindergarten memory books.
Thank you Kim for permission to use your photo.
Attendance Apples Bulletin Board

Leave some room at the bottom and make the apples movable. Children that are in class put their apples in a basket near a cutout of the teacher. Apples of children who are absent are left on the tree.

Read Well Kindergarten Program
- Read Well Program - A to Z Teacher Stuff Forums
- In week 1 they draw a picture of themselves on an apple cut-out. The next day they learn a song called "At the Apple Tree" and they take turns putting their apples on the apple tree in your room.
- Read Well Kindergarten
- Integrates song, movement, rhyme, poetry, trade books, and art projects into daily lessons.
Harvest Good Character Bulletin Board

If you use pushpins to hold the pumpkins on:
1. Children can harvest a pumpkin whenever they do something that shows good character.
2. Write their deed on the pumpkin and put it in the wheel barrow.
3. Gather in the afternoon to review all the good deeds accomplished during the day.

- Ben's class is having a "100th Day of School" Party on Friday. Their project of the week was to collect 100 things to bring to school. We came up with the display idea together. It was so fun. The "sand" is sesame seeds. :) And I was quite impressed with Ben's groupings & cou
Fishing for a Good Book
Interactive Bulletin Board that recommends a Great Book

We made a similar bulletin board but hung more fishing poles from the ceiling and let the children write the names of their favorite books on paper cutout fish. The fish could be removed and taken to the library by children looking for a great book to read.

First Lines of Books Bulletin Board
The next child who reads that book gets to write their name on the back and the book with the most names after a certain amount of time gets a classroom celebration where students dress as characters in the book and other activities that day relate to the book.

- First Lines Bulletin Board
- I love doing bulletin boards to promote books. This was an "interactive" bulletin board. The first line of the book was on the front cover - you lift the flap to see the book title and author. My favorite first line: "Countess Judith kept her husband's head in a box." From "

Math Calendar

Maybe on of the most interactive bulletin boards that you could have in your classroom is a Math Calendar. Nearly every math concept taught in the early grades can be reinforced daily using a math calendar.
Many of the activities shown on the above calendar come from Mary Baretta Lorton's Math Their Way newsletters.

Ride the Train Bulletin Board
Interactive Bulletin Board to Promote Literacy
To make this bulletin board interactive as well as to promote literacy:
1. Write the names of the colors on each of the cars.
2. Make paperdoll cutouts with clues written on their clothing such as
Mary wore a red dress.
Susie wore a blue dress.
Calvin wore a yellow shirt.
3. The children color the clothing according to the clue, cut it out and attach it to the train in the car with the corresponding color.
Simple Machines Bulletin Boards

This bulletin board invites children to come up and try out the different simple machines. When children are able to interact with objects that demonstrate the concept being taught they are better able to grasp the idea and later on use that information in other situations.
- Simple Machines
- This is an interactive bulletin board I made during my Junior Block. The unit was Simple Machines.
Birthday Fruits Bulletin Board

1. Prepare the bulletin board with columns for the twelve months.
2. Ask each student to bring a cut out of a fruit that is available in the month of their birthday and write their name and birth date in it.
A good resource to find seasonal fruits and vegetables classified by state is The Sustainable Table.
3. Pin each cut out in the column of that month.
4. To make it more interactive you can use the data to make up mathematical word problems or give it a more game-like twist with a month die.

A good resource to find dice and game pieces is Great Hall Games.

Interactive Bulletin Boards

Teachers are beginning to write books about the wonderful ideas they have for making interactive bulletin boards. Check out some of the best ones:
Bulletin Boards that Pop
Oh, The Places You'll Go Bulletin Board
Transportation Bulletin Board

To recreate this bulletin board for younger children, add vehicles and label them. To make it interactive, make each vehicle in the shape of a greeting card. When the front flap is lifted synonyms could be found underneath.
car- automobile, horseless carriage,
truck - lorry, dump truck, crane, 18 wheeler
- Business Education Bulletin Board Ideas
- Oh, The Places You'll Go.
Tony's students created this board Dr. Suess characters and some FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competitive events were added later.
Homeschooling Interactive Bulletin Board

Most of the ideas here adapt well for homeschooling families. The bulletin board above becomes a daily review of math skills by Counting the fingers by fives, keeping track of the days to reinforce Place Value and a place to post stories that could be used to search for phonics conventions.
- Homeschooling Interactive Bulletin Board
- Math and Language Arts activities can be practiced with this calendar.
Recycled Art Bulletin Board

One year I started a Frog Pond Theme on the bulletin board but got interrupted before I had a chance to add all the lily pads and Cat-O'-Nine tails. I had left all the materials out along with the scissors and stapler.
When center time came the children spread out across the room to work. What a surprise when I saw two children had taken up the task of finishing the bulletin board. Ever since that day I have always had helpers.
Bulletin Boards can be made from recycled art work. After the children have finished displaying their art work have them add it to the recycle box. Whenever you start a new bulletin board use pieces of paper from the recycle box, cut them to shape and soon the art work has turned into a new masterpiece.
- Butterfly World
- Activity: Students were given symmetrical butterfly halves and worked together to find the matching pair of wings. Facts were written on each set of wings to help students gather information about butterflies. Following are some of the butterfly facts we covered:

To make this perfume poster into an interactive bulletin board:
1. Laminated it.
2 Mounted it on a foam core board,
3. Cut around each of the perfume bottles.
4. Cut a space in the foarm core board behind each of the perfume bottles.
5. Put a paper towel into a very small Ziplock bag with a spice or flavoring in each of the spaces. Attach with Velcro.
6. Write a number on the actual bulletin board in the space behind each perfume bottle and mount a key below the bulletin board.
Children can open each bag and try to guess the smell and then check the key.

Habitat Bulletin Boards

Learning and Teaching Scotland provides pictures like the Underground Natural habitat above. These illustrations are free for any kind of educational use - whether you are a teacher creating topic worksheets or looking for ideas to spark creative writing, or a pupil who needs illustrations for a presentation or website.
If you make a bulletin board with a Habitat scene such as the one above, children can then begin to help you fill in all of the flora and fauna. Each animal or plant could be attached only at the top with it's name and characteristics written on the back.
Note:Attach in such a way that the words are right side up when lifting the picture.
