Bullfighting Should Be Banned

Bullfighting Needs to Stop Now!

I witnessed the bull being stuck with sharp, piercing banderillas over and over and over again to get the animal agitated for about half an hour before it faced the matador. The sweaty crowd in the stands was cheering, excited by their blood-lust. Drips of red streamed down the animal's sides. After that, the bullfighter stepped in the ring, taunted and teased, manipulating the weakened hulk of a beast as it lost more and more blood. Then, the matador finally stabbed the bull to death. Where is the honor in this? The bull never had a chance!

I am happy that bullfighting is now banned in Catalonia, Spain. When I was fourteen, my family took a trip to Mexico City. While there, we wanted to soak up as much local culture as we could , so we went to a bullfight. All I knew before my first taste of bullfighting, was that a matador uses a red cape and taunts the infuriated bull, so that it repeatedly charges the brave bullfighter. I assumed the bull went back in its pen after the spectacle, none the worse for wear. I soon found, however, that there was much more to this unsavory practice than that.

At a young age, I was stricken by the inhumanity of bullfighting. Therefore, I am glad that it's been banned in the northeastern part of Spain. This is the post-modern era. Don't we know better than to torture poor animals and then bring them slowly and painfully to a gruesome end? What do you think? Should bullfighting be banned?

Yes, you're right! Bullfighting should be banned as the inhumane, gruesome non-sport that it is!

ChrissLJ says:

Yes. It's animal cruelty.

Gloriousconfusion says:

My mother lived in Spain for 25 years, and we never once went to see a bullfight because of the disgusting cruelty.

Here are some angel blessings for describing so clearly what happens and the paradox of people thinking that torturing animals is noble and brave.

adamfrench says:

I think it is barbaric

termit_bronx says:

Yes, poor animals!

gottaloveit says:

I'm pretty sure you know where I stand on bull fighting or cock fighting or dog fighting or people fighting. All of it is horrible and should be not only banned but punishable as an offense. As Michael Vick how that went for him.

scarlettohairy says:

I had no idea what went on. I agree. That's just cruel.

No way! Bullfighting is an honorable and time-tested part of Spanish culture. It would be terrible to ban it!

Is bullfighting cruel? Why or why not?

Bullfighting is cruel, disgusting, and sadistic, and ranks right up there with "hunting" from helicopters as the very definition of NONsporting.

It is absolutely cruel. Calling it part of a country's culture, is like calling dogfighting a part of our culture. It just isn't so, and should be absolutely abolished. Only the ignorant find joy in such a cruel display.

Of course it's cruel! It's disgusting too. I don't really care if it's an old tradition or not - so was tossing "witches" in the river in Salem. Was that right?!

Great job explaining this horrible "sport."
