Bullying and Kids

Well it has come with great sadness that yet another young student in our community has taken their life do to being BULLIED. Bullying has become a huge problem, to many cases of youth and school bullying have ended tragically. Did you know that three-quarters of all kids say they have been bullied or teased. "Bullying doesn't make the headlines every day, but every day it touches the lives of people all across the country. " It's time to STOP the hate and EDUCATE before another tragedy takes place.

What is a BULLY

type=textWhat is a BULLY?
A BULLY is a cowardly brow beating ruffian
A BULLY is to theaten and torment a weaker person
A BULLY is someone who is habitually physically and psychologically abuses others
A BULLY is a person who purposely tries to hurt others

I could go on and on with the definition, but you get the hint.

Why do Kids BULLY

type=textWhy kids BULLY ? This question could come up with many many reasons why. We need to find this out and help those who are being Bullied get out. First off Bullying is a behaviour inherent or learned. Inherent behaviour is you were born with it. We are all born with a set of genes through our mother and father. Learned behaviour on the other hand is
from the people and the environment the child is or was surrouned in. Each and everyone of us is different in many ways, we all have strenghts and weaknesses. Our genders play a huge role on child behaviour. Girls are different from boys .The most thought of reason children bully is because they have low to know self- esteem or a poor self image but many times bullies are confident and popular and pick on children who are smaller and not that well liked. Another reason kids Bully is and think it's appropiate behaviour is because they witness violence at home and don't know any other way to deal with everyday stress. If we as parents do not teach our children the proper way to deal with problems, they may have know other way but to resort to violence and bullying. Some children bully to compensate for their own problems, to gain a feeling of power, or to make themselves feel better. Mean or emotionally unstable children bully because is actually enjoyable to them. Some children find happiness in the misery of others. Some kids pick bullying because they have been picked on themselves and they will retaliate by bullying others. This is the way the bullying cycle continues and children who don't normally bully pick it up and start bullying. Definitely NO reason merits bullying, but some children don't know any other way to deal with their problems.

Cyber Bullying is another big form of Bullying kids go through. Cyberbulling is is someone who repeatedly harasses, mistreats, torments, threatens, humiliates, embarrasses or otherwise targets another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. It has also bee noted that middle-school victims of cyberbullying score higher on a suicidal ideation scale. I'm sure you have all heard many tragic stories of adolescents who commit suicide after enduring bullying and/or cyberbullying. It's known that children have killed other childern and commited suicide over having been involved in a cyberbullying incident.Cyberbullying is usually not a one time occurance, unless it involves a death threat or a threat of serious bodily harm.

Steps to stop cyberbulling:
Assertively ask the bully to stop
Tell your parents right away
Never delete any emails from the cyberbully
Block them on the computer
Report cyberbullying to the moderator, the site, your internet service provider or the cell phone company

Pervasive bullying of transgender & gender non-conforming people.

type=textDid you know that more than half of transgender and gender non-conforming people who were bullied, harassed or assaulted in school because of their gender identity have attempted suicide. Among those who had been bullied, harassed or assaulted while they were in school, half reported having attempted suicide. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth are up to four times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. Gender abuse is the major reason that has forced 20 percent of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to attempt or commit suicide.

Bullying and School

In my personal opinion I have found many schools often deny the presence of bullying .
High school can be one of the most exciting times for many school students but for others it can be very overwhelming. Schools need to develop school presentations for elementary, middle and high school students to direct them on the right path in making the right personal and global choices. Schools need to demonstrate the pros and cons of decision-making regarding how they treat others, how they can respect their teachers and how they can make the right career choices. The schools need to develop a solid foundation so our school students have a better chance at success. Schools need to develop and stick to follow-up exercises that go along with all of our school assemblies to aid students in reaching their goals. Bullying should and could be mandatory class all in it's own.

Bullying Status on Facebook

type=textThe one you just called fat? She has been starving herself & she has lost over 30lbs. The one you just called stupid? She has a learning disability & studies every night. The one you just called ugly? She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The one you just tripped? She is abused enough at home. There's a lot more to people than you think. Put this as your status if you're against bullying.

And always remember The Golden rule "to do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Bullying in New York a teachers perspective

Good idea.... A teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stamp on it and really mess it up but do not rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty is was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now even tho...ugh they said ...............they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bully's another child, they may say they're sorry but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying

Parents and Bullying

type=textWe are our childerns biggest SUPPORT system. Talk, talk, talk to your children. Always keep the lines of communication open to prevent your child from being a victim. Walk the line between a concerned caregiver and an overprotective parent. Your child should always feel free to come to you without negative repercussions. If they have concern you'll keep them from hanging out with friends or ban them from the internet , they will not confide in you. Be firm allot them a time to use the internet. Know your child. Kids who are already suffering from depression or low self- esteem are sure targets for cyberbullying. Educate yourself on the danger signs. Is your child moody or withdrawn. Educate tell your childern, let them know what to do if they feel bullied.Teach your children how our differences make us better and that just because someone is different from us, it doesn't make them bad.

She's emo?

She's emo? You'd cut too, if you've been through what she has. She's anorexic? You'd be too, if everyone called you fat everyday. She's a whore? She made one mistake that cost her her reputation. She's a showoff? Her parents abused her, & she's never heard of praise. She's loud? She's invisible at home, & she wants to be heard. She's quiet? She's afraid to speak, because she's scared to get made fun of. She's fat? She binges, because she misses her dead brother. She's a geek? She wants to get into college, so she can support her poverty ridden family. She doesn't wear Abrecrombie? Her parents have been out of work for months, clothes aren't her top priority if she can't even afford food. She's ugly? Tell me, what is the definition of beauty? Who are you to judge them? You know their name, not their story.

Do you know if your child is or has been Bullied?
