I was expecting a typical bench and some kind of weights or resistance rods/tubes. The Bully Xtreme Home Gym is far from that. I was also expecting a crazy price tag.

Here are the things I didn't care for.

1. While the Bully Xtreme has a very strong resistance it is; at least initially, a bit "stiff." I emailed the company and they recommended that I "just spray some silicone spray on it." After 30 days of working out with it, this is no longer any issue.

2. The unit itself is well built but on some of the exercises the cables did press into my hands a bot. So I dug up my old workout gloves and that took care of the problem.

3. The fat loss manual is chuck full of good information about fat loss, nutrition and specifically when and how to eat, but at a 179 pages I wish it were a printed manual rather than an eBook.

4. I did have a little bit of problem downloading the tons of gifts and bonuses that come with the Bully Xtreme, but it I have a MAC and that is a constant problem in a WINDOWS world.

In Conclusion:

I believe that the Bully Xtreme is a great piece of exercise equipment. While it may not completely replace a visit to your local gym, it certainly goes a long way towards getting you a better body and for under $100 dollars US who can beat that!

Many people have seen this lens and have e-mailed me asking me to make a comparison between the Bullworker, the Tensolater, Everlast Powerbow, Rio Power Worker and the Bully Xtreme.

While I am not an expert, I am good at research!

So here is my best attempt at giving you a little bit of the background on the Tensolator.

In doing my research, I went to check the trademarks and found nothing for the Tensolator brand. Although, in researching Gert F Kolbel; the inventor of the bullworker I did find a reference on his patent and to an older patent dated 1912. This invention by Albert Pons looks like an original version of the Tensolator. The fact that is referenced in the Gert F Kolbel patent application would lead you to believe that he may have based his Bullworker design on this older patent.

I was able to grab an image of what this early Tensolator looked like.

Essentially, the Tensolator was a two tube system. One spring inside the tube provided the resistance. Two handles at each end allowed you to perform compression exercisers. Two cables, covered by a plastic sheath; allowed you to perform extension or pulling exercises similar to cables or resistance bands.

This is what makes the Tensolator such an unusual product. In that, it allows you to compress it and at the same time use it for pulling movements. In my opinion, there is no other product like the Bully Xtreme Tensoloter.

While the earlier model was the two tube design as mentioned earlier, the later model the Bullworker X5, that Gert F Kolbel invented as well; provided for a three tube system. The advantage of this is that it allows each side of the body to move independently. This is very similar to using resistance bands or a good set of dumbbells.

This is what I believe sets the Bully Xtreme apart from every other Bullworker product on the market today.

What I mean by that is -- that it combines the design and quality of the original Bullworker (in that it is made of steel not plastic) it still uses the steel cables but plastic sheath is much more comfortable than in the older Tensolater model. And it doesn't cut into your hands as in the Bullworker X5 model.

Many people love the old green handle the Tensolater. So in keeping with doing a thorough job of researching I purchased an old Tensolator model -- the Green Monster -- as some people refer to it, on eBay.

It is truly a testament to the quality of design since the product was made in the late 1960s. In comparing it to my Bully Xtreme I found attention to me approximately 20% of the Bully Xtreme is resistance. The handles were not as comfortable Bully Xtreme but, the mere fact that the unit still performed after almost 40 years to the is quite amazing.

There many similarities in the quality of both the Tensolator of the Bully Xtreme and I hope that mine will last me for years. I can then pass it off to my grandkids.
