Should I buy a Baby Bumbo Seat?

I have bought a bumbo seat for my baby and this article gives my review.
We have been using the Bumbo since my son was 4 months old. However, you can use a bumbo from when they can support their own head.
In the article I have highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of the bumbo for me and my baby. It will help you decide whether you need a bumbo chair or whether you can do without it. In my opinion it is not a necessity but it is extremely useful.

Read on to learn more about the Baby Bumbo chair.

Advantages of the Bumbo Chair

  • The main advantage for me, is It's a great little seat to put on different kinds of surfaces such as kitchen countertops and tables. We have it in the kitchen and it's a great little seat to put on the countertop. I can talk and sing to my baby while cleaning and cooking and he is at my eye level. But equally you could put them in their bumbo seat on a table while you are eating so you can talk and maintain eye contact with them. There is always the bouncy chair but then my bouncy chair is too big to lift up on a table so he is on the floor.

  • Portability - It's easy to just put in the car and take to friends or family's houses too.

  • The tray. If you have a tray with your bumbo seat it means you can put toys on it for baby to play with while your doing other things. It's also a perfect first feeding chair. Great for weaning. You can put them anywhere and feed them without having to get out the highchair.

  • Easy to clean. The material on it is very easy to clean which is also great if you feed them in it.

The Bumbo is designed for babies at that "in between" stage-not quite sitting up but strong enough to support their necks and be interested in everything around them. The seat-which is made from a single piece of material-has a round base, a slightly raised back, two leg openings, and "handles" cut into each side for easy carrying. This unique design allows infants (up to 22 pounds) without trunk control to sit upright on their own.

Made of low-density foam material, the Bumbo is lightweight, comfortable, non-toxic, durable, and easy to clean. The Bumbo's durable foam material offers a plethora of benefits. The low-density substance is designed according to how babies develop and is specifically molded to provide a safe and comfortable seat for their young posture. The non-toxic foam only requires a quick wipe down with a damp cloth when cleaning is needed. And due to the material's light weight, portability is a snap-the Bumbo can go anywhere baby goes.

The Bumbo Sitter can be placed on any level surface to be used as a booster seat, feeding chair, and more. There are no straps or fasteners: it is designed to have baby's bottom slightly lower than the leg openings so that baby's weight is what actually holds them securely in the seat. The ability for parents to have their hands free for quick household tasks or to play with baby face to face makes this seat worth every penny.

    Disadvantages of the Bumbo Chair

  • The main disadvantage of the bumbo is that it does restrict babies movements. Whereas in the bouncy chair they are free to kick their legs in the bumbo they're not. When we first started putting our baby in the bumbo chair at 4 months he would be happy for about 10 minutes and then he would be moving about trying to kick his legs. So, I used to use it in short bursts to get things done in the kitchen. I used to use the bouncy chair more. At 5 months, he will sit in there for a lot longer. He seems much more content looking around at what's going on and listening to me ramble on. However, there does come a point where he will try to start to move a lot and then I get him out..

  • You can't leave them in the Bumbo chair. Whereas I feel my son is completely safe in his bouncy chair and could leave him for a couple of minutes to answer the phone etc, I would never leave him in his bumbo. We have never had an accident but when he does start to move I always feel there is a possibility he could come out of it, if I left him. This is fine for me as I like to interact with him when he is sitting in it but may not be for everybody.

    Bumbo Seat Tray

If you're going to get a bumbo seat it is well worth buying the tray.

The tray will allow your baby to play with toys more easily. If you give them a toy while they're in the seat and they drop it, they won't be able to reach it unless they have a tray. If they have the tray then the toy will normally fall on the tray meaning it's back within their reach.

It's also great for first weaning and giving them snacks as they get older.
